Greener ✓ \ Hammen t/fll lr /1) Harrison Phillips / OLUTION Result WHEREAS, many residents of the State of Utah cannot presently purchase housing because of high interest rates and lack of money for housing in private financial institutions; and WHEREAS, many residents of Salt Lake City currently live in older sections of the community and are unable to get money to remodel and restore housing because of practices by private financial insti- tutions which deny money to these areas other than on the basis of the ability to pay; and WHEREAS, the effect of denial of money by area is to force families out of the city thus creating school closure, and property being bought by speculators and frequent consequent deterioration; BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City urges the Social Services Committee of the State Legislature and the State Legislature assembled in 1975, to give consideration to the Utah Housing Finance Agency Bill which would have the effect of assuaging the above mentioned complaints by raising money through the sale of bonds, passing that money on to the private fr nancial institutions with the understanding that those institutions would pass the savings in interest on to the consumer and make money available to the citizens of the State of Utah which would not other- wise be available for the purpose of home purchase, fix-up and remod- eling, and distribute the money on the basis of population to qualify households without discrimination by area and would provide additional means of financing the purchase, remodeling and restitution of older residential structures. Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake 'ty, Utah, this 10th day of October , 1974. MA ITY RER
