/ / RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COMMITMENT
OF CITY PERSONNEL FOR PURPOSES OF A JOINT
PROGRAM OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENT REDUCTION WITH
THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH
WHEREAS, it is the desire of Salt Lake City to reduce traffic
accidents on city streets and highways within its jurisdiction; and
WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City Police Department and the Salt Lake
City Traffic Engineer have worked with representatives of the Univer-
sity of Utah in the design of a cooperative program for improved
traffic accident reduction; and
WHEREAS, the University of Utah has submitted a proposal to use
the U.S. Department of Transportation's Office of University Research
for purposes of supporting the efforts of the University of Utah in
the cooperative program; and
WHEREAS, said proposal specifies the participation of personnel
from the Salt Lake City Police Department and the Office of the City
Traffic Engineer, and such participation is vital to the conduct
of the work and in the best interest of Salt Lake City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
SALT LAKE CITY:
1. That the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City does
approve of the cooperative program of traffic accident reduction,
involving the Salt Lake City Police Department, the Office of the
City Traffic Engineer, and the University of Utah.
2. That the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City does endorse
the action of the University of Utah in applying to the U. S. Department
of Transportation for financial support of the University's efforts
in the cooperative program.
e. That should the U. S. Department of Transportation provide
funds to support the University's efforts, then the designated effort

by Salt Lake City Employees, as specified in the University's
proposal to the U. S. Department of Transportation (53 man-months),
will be committed to the cooperative project.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 27th day of November , 1974.
