RESOLUTIO N.
WHEREAS, in responding to an alarm sent in from the
southeast part of the city on Friday, the 6th day of June 1913,
the automobile of the Chief of the fire department struck and
killed a child who was upon the street at the time; and
WHEREAS, the said automobile of the Chief was reported
to be running at a high rate of speed at the time said accident
occurred; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of the fire department has been
held accountable for this d.e t1orable result of inexcusable
activity in the discharge of:his official duties; and
WHEREAS, complaints,hive been made to members of this
commission and, generally, that all vehicles of said department
are habitually driven more rapidly than is necessary, whether in
case of fire or for drill or exhibition purposes; and
WHEREAS, there is no desire to take final action fi
or to Pronounce adverse judgment on aik, aim faithful and
competent official rending a complete investigation by this
commission and by all public officials or tribunals concerned;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the chief of the fire department, Ydm.
H. Bywater, be and he is hereby suspended and relieved from his
duties as the head of said department
