LAKE CITY, UT H, i-lADi TAXABLE BY LAW FOR THE YEAR 1953.
Be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City,
Utah:
That in obedience to and in pursuance of the decision and order
of the Supreme Court of Utah adjudging that the levy of 4 mills for water
purification and sewage disposal as contained in the resolution levying
taxes, adopted by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City on July
28, 1953 resulted in a total levy in excess of the limitation of 18.5
mills imposed by law, and it appearing uncertain whether the levy for
library board may legally be in addition to the 18.5 mill limitation im-
posed by law, the said item of 4 mills for water purification and sewage
disposal be, and the same hereby is, set aside and stricken, and the mill
levies for other purposes are changed and amended so that said resolution
shall be and read as follows:
"Be it Resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City,,
Utah:
"what for the purpose of defraying the necessary and proper ex-
pense of Salt Lake City and maintaining the Government thereof, there be
and there is hereby levied upon all the real and personal property within
Salt Lake City, Utah, made taxable by law, for the fiscal year ending
December 31, 1953, a tax of 18.5 mills on each dollar assessed valuation
of said property for Salt Lake City.
"Said tax is hereby levied and to be raised for the following
purposes and is and shall be apportioned to such purposes in the following
manner:

"CONTINGENT EXPENSES
"To defray contingent expenses, three (3.000) mills on
each dollar assessed valuation of said property.
"STREETS AND SIDEWALKS
"To open, improve and repair streets and sidewalks, three
(3.000) mills on each dollar assessed valuation of said property.
"SEWERS AND DRAINS
"To defray the expense of sewers and drains, two (2.000)
mills on each dollar assessed valuation of said property.
"BOND AND INTEREST
"For the payment of interest on outstanding bonds and to
constitute a Sinking Fund for the payment of the principal of out-
standing bonds, one and five hundred thousandths (1.500) mills on
each dollar assessed valuation of said property.
"AUDITOR
"To defray the expense of the Auditor, three tenths (.3)
of a mill on each dollar assessed valuation of said property.
"DEPART :DT OF PUBLIC SAFETY
"To defray the expense of the Department of Public Safety
four and one quarter (4..25) mills on each dollar assessed valuation
of said property.
"LIBRARY BOARD
"To maintain public libraries and free reading rooms,
three quarters (3/4) mill on each dollar assessed valuation of said
property.
"It is necessary in the opinion of the Board of Commis-
sioners for the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants of Salt
Lake City, Utah, that this resolution shall take effect upon its
passage, and an emergency is hereby declared to exist so that said
levy may be made and said tax collected as required by law."
