RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the City Commission of Salt Lake City has become aware
of the fact that shipments of nerve gas and other dangerous gases are
being transported through the corporate limits of Salt Lake City to
Dugway Proving Grounds; and
WHEREAS, the Commission is very much aware of the great danger
to the citizens of Salt Lake City should the containers of these gases
leak or be ruptured; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City are aware
of the injuries and deaths caused in other cities as a result of
escaping toxic gases,
NOW THEREFORE, it is hereby resolved that the Board of Commissioners
of Salt Lake City objects to the shipment and transportation of nerve
gas and other dangerous gases through the populated areas of Salt
Lake City and encourages your consideration in eliminating this objec-
tionable procedure by requesting and requiring the United States Army
to take such precautions as necessary to avoid the transportation of
these dangerous gases through the populated areas of Salt Lake City.
The City Recorder is hereby directed to send a copy of this
Resolution to: Wallace F. Bennett, Frank E. Moss, Congressman Sherman
P. Lloyd and Congressman Laurence J. Burton.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City this
