Scheid / _ Spearman . 1 Wells • 4 •t Mr.Chairman Result RESOLUTION In the matter of the application of Cora Thompson for a rooming house license at 71 Commercial Street: WHEREAS, Cora Thompson on the 20th day of September, 1916, duly made application to the Assessor and Collector of License Taxes for a license to conduct a rooming house at No. 71 Commercial Street, Salt Lake City, which application was duly submitted to the Board of Commissioners; and WHEREAS, Said application was by the Board of Commissioners duly and as required by Section 861 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1913, referred to the Chief of Police for investigation and report, as directed in said ordinance; and WHEREAS, Said Chief of Police having duly and on September 26, 1916, made his report to the Board of Commissioners thereon, in and by which he stated that said applicant had on August 31, 1916, plead guilty to the charge of keeping a house of ill-fame at said No. 71 Commercial Street, before the Criminal Division of the City Court, and had been by said court fined in the sum of 425.00, which she had paid; and that said applicant had also at the time of making said report a United States Government license to sell intoxicating liquors, and recommended to said Board of Commissioners that said license be refused; and WHEREAS, Upon the coming in of said report the Board of Commissioners on September 27, 1916, duly passed a resolution -1- setting October 3, 1916 at 2:30 o'clock P. ICI., for hearing the matter of said application, and directed the City Reoorder to serve upon said applicant a copy of said report of said Chief of Police and a notice of the time and place of said hearing; and WHEREAS, Copies of said resolution and said report were drily served upon said applicant; and WHEREAS, At the time mentioned in said resolution, and in the Council Chamber of said Board of Commissioners, said applicant appeared in person and by William Newton, Esq., her attorney, and proceeded with the hearing; that after hearing the testimony taken upon such hearing, and the argument of the attorney for the appli- cant, the Board of Commissioners took under advisement the granti.: of said application for license; and WHEREAS, The Board of Commissioners after fully considering the evidence aforesaid, finds the following facts: 1. That Cora Thompson the applicant above mentioned, did on the 31st day of August, 1916, before the Criminal Division of the City Court of Salt Lake City, plead guilty to the charge of keep a house of ill-fame at 71 Commercial Street, Salt Lake City, as made against her in a complaint filed in said court; and that said Cora Thompson was then and there fined by said oourt the sum of $25.00 for said offense, and that she then and there paid said fine. 2. That said Cora Thompson at the time she made application for said rooming house license, was the holder of a United States Government license for a sale f intoxica ing l qu book y From which factslthe Board of Commissioners concludes: 1. That said Cora Thompson is not a proper person to be granted a license to conduct a rooming house. 2. That the application aforesaid by said Cora Thompson for license to conduct a rooming house at 71 Commercial Street should be denied, and the license refused: -2- NON THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, that the application for the rooming house license above mentioned, i$y Gera Thgmpson be, and the same is hereby denie' , and the license refused.
