Greener ���� Harmsen Mal Harrison Phillips 41111 ■■ RESOLUTION Result RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION WHEREAS, Newell G. Knight has been employed with Salt Lake City for the past 45 years, commencing his public service on March 1, 1929 and will retire on March 1, 1974; and WHEREAS, he has served in various departments of the City, commencing in the Street Department as a truck driver, transferring in 1936 to the Parks Department and to the Water Department in 1947 after which he was employed by the City Auditor as an auditor-voucher- clerk and accounting clerk on December 1, 1947; and WHEREAS, Mr. Knight served as part time City Historian unofficially for many years and was officially appointed City Historian September 1, 1969 on a part time basis and thereafter was appointed as City Historian and Custodian of City Records on October 1, 1972; and WHEREAS, his knowledge of the history of Salt Lake City was impressive and enjoyed by all those who knew him; and WHEREAS, Mr. Knight did also serve as a state legislator and was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and WHEREAS, Salt Lake City and its residents owe Mr. Knight a debt of gratitude for his long, faithful and devoted service. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, that it does hereby express to Mr. Newell G. Knight, its sincere and deep appreciation for his faithful service to the City and its inhabitants. Said Board further extends to him its best wishes for a long and enjoyable retirement. The City Recorder is hereby directed to deliver a copy of this Resolution to Mr. Knight. Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt La-e City, Utah, this 26th day of February , 1974.
