WHEREAS, the recreational facilities on the south shore of the
Great Salt Lake have through the years deteriorated into a condition
largely adverse to enjoyment of the area by residents and guests of
our state; and
WHEREAS, there is general agreement among Utah legislators,
business people, state parks and recreation officials and others
that development of the south shore will be a wise investment for
the entire state; and
WHEREAS, meaningful development of the south shore will even-
tually require that water be supplied therefore from Salt Lake City;
and
WHEREAS, a water line from the western boundaries of Salt Lake
City to the south shore will bring water also to industrial, commer-
cial and residential developments along the route and will attract
additional developments greatly advantaging the city and state, their
residents and friends; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Salt Lake City Commissioners is desirous
that the state legislature appropriate money which would permit the
installation of such a water line with the understanding that water
users advantaged by such installation would reimburse the state for
their share of the costs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners
of Salt Lake City, Utah, that it is the desire and request of the
Salt Lake City Commission that sufficient funds be appropriated by
the Utah State Legislature for the purpose of installation of a water-
line from Salt Lake City to the South Shore of the Great Salt Lake
to encourage recreational development there with the understanding
that other water users advantaged by such installation would reim-
burse the state for their share of the costs.
Passed by the Board of Commissione of Salt Lake City, Utah
this 24th day of January, 1978.
