Agraz Greener `( L✓/ :t , Hogensen Phillips C\ OLUTION Result WHEREAS, Salt Lake County has declared surplus certain watershed lands owned by it and located east of Salt Lake City and in the eastern edge of Salt Lake County; and WHEREAS, said lands are located in the watershed which produces water captured by Salt Lake City and distributed through its Water Department to residents of Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County; and WHEREAS, it is the City's desire to protect the watershed areas from development which could contaminate said water systema and thus increase costs to the City and the County residents for water produced; a concern which should be shared by all County residents and their elected officials; and WHEREAS, Salt Lake City has agreed to donate to the County, free of charge, some TWO MILLION DOLLARS worth of real property to underlie proposed Little Dell Dam, which land is contemplated as part of the County's Flood Control Project; and WHEREAS, Salt Lake City has leased to Salt Lake County other property it owns situated outside the City limits for little or no rental, including the property presently used for the County's Mick Reilly Golf Course; and WHEREAS, the City taxpayers have contributed nearly TEN MILLION DOLLARS to the. County Flood Control Program since 1965 and have only received $1,944,338.86 in flood control projects benefiting the City directly in return during the same period; and WHEREAS, the County has declared these watershed properties surplus, and in equity, they should be conveyed to Salt Lake City Corporation as partial compensation for the aforesaid City gratuities donated by the City to the County and so the City can protect City and County residents right to a pure water supply; or alternatively the County should retain these watershed lands in a protected state for the benefit and safety of all County residents. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, that it does hereby express its desire that the County con- vey said watershed lands to Salt Lake City Corporation as partial compensa- tion for the City's committment to convey nearly TWO MILLION DOLLARS worth of land, which underlies the planned Little Dell Dam; or alternatively that none of the lands belonging to Salt Lake County and located in the canyons or on the City's watershed be sold; but that it be preserved and protected for the benefit of all County residents. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be delivered to the Salt Lake County Commissioners as an expression of the Board of City commissioners concern over the prospects of the sale of said watershed lands.
