Greener eQ zix Homan • _ �'f— �(fYt�- Phillips ✓` RESOLUTION Result WHEREAS, Salt Lake City Corporation desires to promote the health, safety, welfare, and convenience of its citizens by providing for the efficient collection and disposal of solid waste; and, WHEREAS, Salt Lake City Corporation together with other general purpose governments within Salt Lake County has experienced, or is experiencing difficulty in carrying out this responsibility because of rising costs and other problems associated with providing solid waste disposal services; and WHEREAS, it has been determined, after extensive study and inves- tigation, that through the maintenance of a cooperative joint system for the disposal of solid waste and refuse a more efficient, less expensive, and more desirable system can be achieved. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Salt Lake City Corporation approves in principle the development of a cooperative joint system for the disposal of solid waste generated within Salt Lake County and agrees: (1) To conduct a thorough review of the recommendations contained within Volume I of the Salt Lake Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Management Planning Report for the purpose of future formal adoption of them, in whole or part, or developing alternative recommendations. (2) To cooperate with and support joint efforts sponsored by the Salt Lake County Council of Governments, or its member entities, to develop workable solutions to alleviate long and short term solid waste disposal problems. (3) That this resolution is not to be construed as an immediate commitment to, or endorsement of any specific recommendation contained in Volume I of the Salt Lake Metro- politan Area Solid Waste Management Planning Report, but merely as a commitment to study the recommendations prior to more formal action.
