RESOLUTION NO. 94 OF 1981
(Requesting Interchange at
I-80 and 4800 West)
WHEREAS, the State of Utah and the Federal Highway
Administration are beginning construction of I-80 in the
Northwest Quadrant of Salt Lake City; and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City has cited the need for certain
modifications in the current design of I-80 in the Northwest
Quadrant of the City to facilitate the flow of traffic as the
western portion of the Salt Lake City continues to grow and
develop; and
WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City Council has previously submitted
a resolution to the State of Utah and the Federal Highway
Administration requesting the construction of said interchange;
and
WHEREAS, recent feasibility studies performed by the State
of Utah have determined that the construction of this interchange
is both feasible and practical from a cost benefit standpoint;
and
WHEREAS, the State of Utah is in the process of requesting
approval from the Federal Highway Administration for construction
of said interchange.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Salt Lake City
Council again expresses its opinion and belief that the inter-
change at 4800 West and I-80 is necessary to provide additional
access, traffic circulation and police and fire protection in the
Northwest Quadrant of Salt Lake City.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Salt Lake City Council is of
the firm belief that construction of this interchange must be
done concurrently with the I-80 construction, as this would
result in greater economies of construction, the lessening of
future traffic disruption on both I-80 and 4800 West, and would
provide a more complete highway system at the conclusion of the
I-80 construction. The City therefore requests that all neces-
sary design processes be implemented immediately in order that
the interchange may be built in concurrence with the I-80
construction currently in process.
Passed by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 20th day of October , 1981.
