f RESOLUTION DECLARING NOVEMBER
s NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH IN SALT LAKE CITY
WHEREAS, the more than two thousand Native Americans residing within Salt Lake City are
a unique and diverse population representing many tribal nations and their
cultural values,celebrations and achievements;and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City is built on homelands of the Northwestern Shoshone,Paiute,
Goshute,and Ute who have called the Salt Lake Valley and the Wasatch Range
home and have been stewards of the land for thousands of years;and
WHEREAS, Native Americans have contributed to the prosperity of Salt Lake City through
treaties,resources,lands,culture,traditions and commerce;and
jWHEREAS, we honor and celebrate the importance of Native Americans and their
immeasurable contributions to our City and to our society,distinguishing
themselves as scholars,veterans,teachers,athletes,artists,entrepreneurs and
leaders;and
WHEREAS, we strive to improve communications with,services to,and partnership with all
City residents as we journey together on a quest for justice,equality,respect and
prosperity.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED
- that the Salt Lake City Council declares the month of November each year
Native American Heritage Month.
