HomeMy WebLinkAbout31 of 2025 - Joint Ceremonial Resolution Declaring the Second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples Day in SaltSALT LADE CITY CORPORATION JOINT RESOLUTION DECLARING THE SECOND MONDAY IN OCTOBER AS INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' DAY IN SALT LAKE CITY WHEREAS, Salt Lake City recognizes the city is built upon the homelands of the Indigenous Peoples of this region, whose histories are entwined with the settlement of Salt Lake City; and WHEREAS, Salt Lake City established its Human Rights Commission, committing itself to protect, respect and fu fill the full range of inherent human rights for all; and I k WHEREAS, Salt Lake City values Indigenous Peoples' contributions to our community that substantially shaped the character of our City; and ° WHEREAS, Salt Lake City opposes systematic discrimination toward Indigenous People in the United States and supports policies and practices that ensure broader access to resources and opportunities; and WHEREAS, Indigenous communities and Tribes in Utah support officially recognizing the Second Monday of October as Indigenous Peoples' Day to promote understanding and combat discrimination; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Salt Lake City Council and Mayor of Salt Lake City declare the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples' Day in Salt Lake City, commit to supporting the well-being of the Indigenous community, and encourage educational recognition of Indigenous people's history and culture. Adopted this nth day of October 2025.
