HomeMy WebLinkAbout007 of 2026 - Joint Resolution Celebrating June 2026 as Immigration Heritage Month in Salt Lake CitySALT LAKE CITY CORPORATION ytrSiortuflou JOINT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING IMMIGRANT HERITAGE MONTH KEREAS, Immigrant Heritage Month is an annual observance celebrated in the United States to honor and recognize the significant contributions of immigrants and celebrate the diversity they bring to Salt Lake City; and VERE.AS, Immigrants have played a vital role in building and sustaining our local economy, contributing as workers, entrepreneurs, educators, public servants, and community leaders; and YEREAS, Salt Lake City acknowledges the hardships, prejudice, and sacrifices endured by immigrants throughout history — including policies rooted in fear rather than fact — and honors their resilience, determination, and unwavering belief in the American dream; and 7EREAS, the United States, a nation of immigrants, and our city continues to be shaped and strengthened by those who come here seeking opportunity, safety, and a better future for themselves and their families, and Salt Lake City welcomes and celebrates that ongoing legacy; and WHEREAS, characterizations of all immigrants as threats to public safety or national identity are inconsistent with the substantial social, cultural, and economic contributions immigrants have made to our city and nation; and WHEREAS, Salt Lake City and all levels of government have a responsibility to uphold the dignity of all residents, reject discrimination, and ensure that community dialogue reflects the values of fairness, accuracy, and respect; and WHEREAS, Salt Lake City recognizes the dedicated efforts of immigrant rights advocates, community organizations, and individuals who work to empower immigrants, defend their rights, and foster a more welcoming city; and WHEREAS, it is essential to promote inclusion, respect, and understanding among all members of society and to ensure that every individual is afforded equal rights, protections, and opportunities regardless of where they were born. SALT LAKE CITY CORPORATION Yusatufilau NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Salt Lake City Council and Mayor of Salt Lake City declare June 2026 Immigrant Heritage Month in Salt Lake City and encourage all residents to learn more about the social and economic impact of immigrants in the city and throughout the country.
