Information Needed by Council Staff
A. Wasatch Front Regional Council Items
2019-2o5o Regional Transportation Plan Small Area Meeting
At the Council's April 12 work session Council Members indicated they would like
to have a presentation about the Wasatch Front Regional Council Plan for 2o5o.
In further staff discussions with WFRC Ted Knowlton, he has suggested that
three Council Members attend the Northeast Salt Lake County Small Area
Meeting on May 18, a Wednesday. The meeting is scheduled to be held from 3-5
p.m. in the South Salt Lake City Hall Overflow Room at 220 Morris Avenue.
The small area meeting would allow Council Members a chance to work with
other elected officials to help shape the 2o5o Transportation Plan, according to
Mr. Knowlton. He said it would be a better opportunity for up to three Council
Members to start helping to shape the plan before it is brought before the public
later this year.
➢ Are there three Council Members interested in attending the small area
meeting?
Councilmember Penfold said he would like to attend. It was suggested that
Council Members Mendenhall and Kitchen also attend. Ms. Gust-Jenson said
she would circle back to this item because some Council Members were absent
for the discussion.
The WFRC also has scheduled a Wasatch Choice 2o5o Consortium and Active
Transportation Health Summit on June 29 at the Little America Hotel. The small
area meetings will inform the larger meeting.
The consortium part of the larger meeting "will focus on refreshing the Wasatch
Choice vision looking out to 2o5o to reflect the dynamic changes in the region,
the Your Utah Your Future statewide vision done by Envision Utah, and local
efforts such as Salt Lake County's The Future We Choose," according to an
Internet promotional flier. The event will be held at the Grande America Hotel at
555 South Main Street in Salt Lake City. The event will start at 8:3o a.m. The
event will be coupled with an active transportation and health summit.
➢ Council staff will send an Outlook appointment to Council Members and
make arrangements based on Council Members' interest in attending.
Ms. Gust-Jenson said this item would be moved to the next meeting for
discussion because some Council Members were absent.
B. National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH) 2016
National Conference
The 2016 National Conference on Ending Homelessness is Tuesday, July 26 to
Thursday, July 28 at the Renaissance Hotel Downtown, Washington, DC. The last
afternoon is Capitol Hill visits. Early registration costs $550. The City's Homeless
Services Coordinator highly recommends the conference and urges registration as
soon as possible. The Chair/Vice-Chair are in support of sending the
Homelessness Subcommittee to the Conference.
➢ Are any other Council Members interested in attending?
Councilmember Penfold suggested starting with three open slots. He said he was
fine if others were interested in attending. Councilmember Rogers said he was
fine if Council Members were interested in going that were not on the
subcommittee or RDA. Ms. Gust-Jenson said five spots had been reserved and
asked Council Members to follow up with Staff if they were interested in
attending.
