02/07/2017 - Work Session - Announcements City Council REVISED Announcements February 7, 2017 For your information A. 9:04:25 PM Retreat Discussion Follow-up Dates: Department discussions identified at the Council's Annual Workshop will take place on the following dates: • Infrastructure Briefing— Feb 21, 2017 • Economic Development Briefing—Mar 7, 2017 • Homelessness Briefing—Mar 21, 2017(Lisa and Andrew will be out of town) • Affordable Housing Briefing(with RDA meeting)—Apr ii, 2o17 B. 9:04:44 PM (TENTATIVE) Blue Ribbon Housing Commission Status The Council may wish to discuss the status of this item. Cindy Gust-Jenson,Council Executive Director,explained there was confusion among Staff regarding the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Housing Commission.She said Councilmember Rogers had been selected as the Council's representative to serve on the Commission however,it was not confirmed. She asked the Council how they would like this handled.She also indicated Staff was waiting for the Mayor's office to confirm if one or two Councilmember's were needed to serve on the Commission. It was clarified by the Mayor that one Councilmember and one back-up(in case the representative could not attend)were needed to serve on the Commission. Council Members agreed to have Councilmember Rogers serve as the representative and Councilmember Adams as the back-up. Information Needed by Council Staff C. 9:07:01 PM Council Board Appointments - Subcommittee for interviews In general the Mayor suggests board appointments for the Council to consider,but there are a few cases where the Council is responsible to both suggest and approve members(3 spots on the Citizens Compensation Advisory Committee and 5 spots on the Metro Water Board). There are two pending vacancies to the Metro and one on CCAC. Staff sent information to the Council in email for potential board member applicants and is checking back in with Council Members. The list of potential applicants is provided in red folders for the Council's review and direction to staff. Ms.Gust-Jenson stated this was a reminder for Council to submit any ideas they had to Staff for potential board member applicants. She also asked the Council to submit any feedback they had on the applicants that had been submitted. She said anyone nominated would come before the council for an interview in a public meeting. Councilmember Adams said she was impressed with the resumes of everyone received and felt comfortable interviewing those applicants and then making recommendations. Councilmember Penfold indicated they could move forward with the process. D. 9:08:24 PM November meeting date for Redevelopment Agency(RDA) Currently,the RDA meeting in November is scheduled to take place on Nov. 21st.Typically, RDA meetings are scheduled for the second Tuesday of the month.This would mean the RDA could/should be scheduled for Nov. 14th. Which date would the Council like to schedule for the November RDA meeting? Council Members agreed to schedule the November RDA meeting on the second Tuesday, Nov. 14th. Ms. Gust-Jenson said the RDA Chair suggested switching the March 21st and March 28th meetings,meaning the Council work session and formal meeting would be held on March 21st and the RDA meeting and Council work session would be held on March 28th.No objections were made from the Council. Practice regarding Written Briefings When we add an item as a written briefing,we let the Administration know that discussions are not held for an item on the agenda as a Written Briefing,please notify staff if needed,the item can be discussed at a future work session. F. Wasatch Choice 205o Vision Plan(please see attached) Each Council Member should receive an invitation from the Wasatch Front Regional Council to attend workshops that will inform the Wasatch Choice 205o Vision Plan. The City Council will be invited to participate in two workshops on March 8 and March 9. The workshops will be used to develop three potential transportation and growth plans for the Wasatch Front. The workshops are an effort by the Regional Council,the Utah Department of Transportation, and the Utah Transit Authority to plan transportation and land use to projected growth.The March 8 workshop will be held at the South Salt Lake Columbus Center, 2531 South 40o East,from 4 p.m.to 6 p.m.The March 9 workshop will be held in the Taylorsville City Hall, 260o West Taylorsville Boulevard,from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The workshops will focus on future development and its relationship to transit,highways, and streets.A description of the workshop is attached. 00.
