5 . Recycling Information Office Update - Jan Teasdale
Ms . Jan Teasdale, Recycling Information Office Specialist,
distributed copies of the Recycling Guide that was distributed
throughout the valley on January 10, 1995 . Some of the
information included in the guide was suggested by consumers
in the valley. Three more issues of the Recycling Guide will
be distributed during 1995, one near Earth Day, another in
July, and again in October.
Jan also distributed statistical information on the recycling
information distributed during 1994 . The figures show an
increase in the amount of information distributed; the staff
at the Recycling Information Office encourage interested
individuals to come into the office to pick up the information
rather than sending the information through the mail .
The Recycling Information Office assisted Salt Lake County
Sanitation in the sale of Toro Composters; a total of 3, 025
composters have been sold to date.
The Recycling Information Office issued two press releases
concerning the recycling and composting of Christmas trees at
drop off sites . When Christmas tree sales begin in 1995, the
Recycling Information Office would like to have information
posted at the tree lots giving information on the composting
of the trees after the holidays, as well as drop off sites.
Interviews for the Recycling Coordinator position should be
held next week; the new Coordinator will be involved with the
staff at the Recycling Office in recruiting and training
volunteers.
6 . Special Presentation to the Council
Bud Poole displayed a scale model of how the landfill modules
will appear 25 years from now. The model scale and dimensions
were taken from the EMCON drawing and shows the 10 foot
elevations on the completed modules. The model includes
Modules 1 and 2 that have been completed, Module 3 that is
being completed, and Module 4 that will be completed next
year. He noted that approximately 27 million tons of garbage
will fill the modules over the 25 years.

SUBJECT: Closure of interior employee parking at 300 West yard
DATE: April 4, 1995
As you are well aware and we discussed earlier, to help in reducing the yard
congestion and improve safety, we were evaluating the option of eliminating the
approximately 50 stall fenced parking area located at the Northwest corner of the
yard.
Upon further discussion of this issue with employees as well as the recent rash
of vehicle vandalism on the off street parking located on 900 South, a majority of
our employees have voiced their concerns about such closure. Attached please
see their letter addressed to me.
In light of their feelings, I am writing this letter requesting all other possible and
practical options which could provide all of us with a safe and uncongested
working environment be identified and completely evaluated prior to looking at
closing this fenced parking area (i.e., look at it as a final possible solution ).
Some options identified to-date included:
Moving repaired vehicles out to their appropriate departments.
Moving all unnecessary items out and find alternate storage areas.
Assign specific parking stalls.
Provide a summer sander storage area.
I do appreciate your efforts in addressing this tough subject and we are
receptive to evaluating all possible solutions.
