WORK SESSION
THURSDAY, JULY 14 , 2005
The City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah met in Work Session on
Thursday, July 14, 2005, at 5 : 30 p.m. in Room 326, Committee Room, City
County Building, 451 South State Street.
In Attendance : Council Members Carlton Christensen, Van Turner, Eric
Jergensen, Nancy Saxton, Jill Remington Love, Dave Buhler, and Dale
Lambert.
Also In Attendance : Cindy Gust-Jenson, Executive Council Director;
Lehua Weaver, Council Constituent Liaison; Edwin Rutan, City Attorney;
Elizabeth Giraud, Preservation and Urban Design Senior Planner; Janice
Lew, Preservation and Urban Design Planner; Janice Jardine, Council
Land Use Policy Analyst; Jennifer Bruno, Council Policy Analyst; Cheri
Coffey, Deputy Director/Zoning Administration/Preservation and Urban
Design/Housing and Zoning Enforcement; Sam Guevara, Mayor' s Chief of
Staff; and Scott Crandall, Deputy Recorder.
Councilmember Lambert presided at and conducted the meeting.
The meeting was called to order at 5 : 37 p.m.

#1 . 6:19:06PM RECEIVE A FOLLOW-UP BRIEFING/REPORT ON THE PLANNING
COMMISSION' S RECOMMENDATION REGARDING MICHAEL KERNS REQUEST TO REVOKE
THE HISTORIC LANDMARK DESIGNATION FOR THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT 381 EAST
11TH AVENUE - THE "MALCOLM A. KEYSER" HOME PURSUANT TO PETITION 400-05-

Cheri Coffey, Elizabeth Giraud and Jennifer Bruno briefed the
Council with handouts (see file P 05-14) . Ms . Coffey said the Planning
Commission (PC) held a public hearing and discussed the issue of due
process . She said the due process issue was deferred to the City
Attorney' s Office for further review. She said the PC adopted the
Historic Landmark Commission' s recommendation to deny the petition and
unanimously passed a motion recommending the City Council deny the
request.
#2 . 5:37:49PM (TENTATIVE) CONSIDER A MOTION TO ENTER INTO EXECUTIVE
SESSION, IN KEEPING WITH UTAH CODE, TO DISCUSS ATTORNEY-CLIENT MATTERS
THAT ARE PRIVILEGED PURSUANT TO UTAH CODE ANN. § 78-24-8 .
Councilmember Love moved and Councilmember Turner seconded to
enter into Executive Session, which motion carried, all members voted
aye . See file M 05-2 for Sworn Statement and tape.
The meeting adjourned at 6 : 50 p.m.
