CHAIR BUSINESS
John Wennergren said the Mayor has approved the nominations of
John Greene , Bryan DeYoung and John Janson to the Board . He made
a special exception for Clayton White to serve a 3rd term. The
City Council still needs to make the appointments official .
ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT - Rick Graham
Rick reported that he had received the allocation for the Tracy
Trust Fund which totals $3,034 .90 . It is now deposited in the
City account . He wrote a letter thanking the executors of the
trust . The trust lasts until 1994 .
Capital Improvements : Rocks for lining the pond will be taken.
from Mountain Dell, which is still under snow. John Swain said
once the rocks are in place, the pond can be filled . Then as
time permits, top soil, grass and drains can be completed .
The bid for pathways has been awarded to Cal Workman
Construction . Work will start approximately April 1 and last 30-
40 days, and cost $37, 000 .

Budget : Increases - it appears at this point, the Mayor 's office
will support converting the hourly aviary attendent position to
full-time . Reductions - Gift Shop inventory budget has been
decreased $40, 000; no impact will be felt . Security guard costs
will be reduced by $12, 000 . Rick explained this can be done in a
variety of ways . One possibility is paying for 6-hour coverage
rather than 10 . Another, is to hire our own person and set up
radio connection with the Police . He explained that, though this
was a difficult decision, it was deemed reasonable due to the new
fencing and lighting improvements .
A proposal was submitted to increase fees in three areas : 1)
Change admission rates for adults to $1 . 50 and Children $0 . 50 .
2) Charge weekends March through November . 3) Charge all day
Saturday . This should generate $18, 000 .
Rick handed out a Quarterly Review of the 1990/91 Budget (Exhibit
A) to the board . Sheryl Gillilan suggested adding a percentage
column; the board discussed and agreed . Rex Kennedy asked about
the Tracy Fund ; Rick said he will also prepare a Quarterly Review
for that . Conrad Harrison said it is a good idea to compare last
year 's budget to better determine the periods which result in the
largest outlays . Mark Stackhouse gave a breakdown on the
education budget .
CURATOR'S REPORT - Grenville Roles
Grenville handed out the Sales, Acquisitions and Deaths report
(Exhibit B) . He said the Aviary has gotten off to a good
breeding start this year, with the Vasa parrot hatchling .
Sales: The only significant sale was that of the Port Lincoln
parrot .
Acquisitions : A second pair of Cabots Tragopan, the Cuban
Melodious Finches were accessible because of accreditation . The
hand-raised King Vulture was acquired for the bird show.
Deaths : Only three deaths . The male Vasa parrot probably died
from stress; it plucked its feathers and didn 't get along with
either of its mates .
