TUESDAY, MAY 20 , 2008
The City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, met in Regular Session
on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 7 : 00 p.m. in Room 315, City Council
Chambers, City County Building, 451 South State.
The following Council Members were present:
Van Turner Jill Remington-Love Soren Simonsen
Luke Garrott Eric Jergensen
The following Council Members were absent:
Carlton Christensen JT Martin
Cindy Gust-Jenson, Executive Council Director; David Everitt,
Mayor' s Chief of Staff; Edwin Rutan, City Attorney; and Beverly Jones,
Deputy City Recorder, were present.
Councilmember Love presided at and conducted the meeting.
#1 . 7:04:00 PM The Council led the Pledge of Allegiance .
#2 . 7:04:45 PM Councilmember Simonsen moved and Councilmember
Turner seconded to approve the minutes for the Salt Lake City Council
meeting held May 13, 2008, which motion carried, all members present

#3 . 7:05:34 PM Bonneville Elementary School students from Mrs .
Allen' s Third Grade Class reported to the City Council on their housing
preservation project.
The students presented their project with a short speech on four
different styles of houses .
PUBLIC HEARINGS
#1. 7:12:15PM RE: Accept public comment and consider adopting an
ordinance rezoning properties located at 728, 732, 752 and 766 North
Redwood Road and amending the Zoning Map with conditions and time

adopt Ordinance 24 of 2008, which motion carried, all members present
voted aye .

The following people spoke in support of funding for Youth City:
Amy Martin, Marguerite Casale, Ben Rich, Jo Starks and Susan Stewart.
Jim Garside spoke in opposition to amending water rates in the
City; Holly Sizemore spoke in support of No More Homeless Pets; and
John Allen Shaw spoke in support of the Intra-City Bicycle
Transportation System.
Councilmember Simonsen moved and Councilmember Jergensen seconded
to close the public hearing and refer these items to a future Council
meeting, which motion carried, all members present voted aye .
7:31:17PM QUESTIONS TO THE MAYOR FROM THE CITY COUNCIL
Councilmember Garrott said it seemed like the bike sharing system
was catching some momentum. He asked if the system was part of the
Administration' s budget proposal for the coming year. David Everitt,
Mayor' s Chief of Staff, said in his discussion with the Mayor he saw
the proposed trial and bikeways coordinator taking the lead on
developing a system for the City. He said they were not at a point yet
to make a proposal .

to approve the Consent Agenda, which motion carried, all members
present voted aye .
#1. RE: Setting the date of June 10, 2008 at 7 : 00 p.m. to accept
public comment and consider adopting an ordinance amending Salt Lake
City Ordinance 24 of 2007 which adopted the final budget of Salt Lake
City, Utah, for the Fiscal Year beginning July 1, 2007 and ending June
30, 2008 . (Budget Amendment No. 4)

#2 . Approving the correction term date for the reappointment of
Cristy Gleave to the Human Rights Commission for a term extending
through December 26, 2011 .
