TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20 , 2009
The City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, met in Regular Session on
Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 7 : 00 p.m. in Room 315, City Council
Chambers, City County Building, 451 South State .
The following Council Members were present:
Carlton Christensen Van Turner Eric Jergensen
Jill Remington Love JT Martin Luke Garrott
Soren Simonsen
Cindy Gust-Jenson, Executive Council Director; Edwin Rutan, City
Attorney; David Everitt Chief of Staff; and Christine Meeker, City
Recorder; were present.
Councilmember Christensen presided at and Councilmember Martin
conducted the meeting.
OPENING CEREMONY
#1. 7:02:57 PM The Council led the Pledge of Allegiance .
#2 . 7:04:39 PM Councilmember Simonsen moved and Councilmember
Jergensen seconded to approve the minutes of the Salt Lake City Council
meeting held October 13, 2009, which motion carried, all members voted

#3. 7:05:20 PM Recognize Ms. Kris Vehrs, the Executive Director of
the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and consider adopting a joint
ceremonial resolution with the Mayor honoring the Hogle Zoo and Tracy
Aviary for receiving national accreditation by the Zoos and Aquariums
(AZA) .
Councilmember Love read the resolution and Councilmember
Christensen and David Everitt presented the resolution to the Aviary

Councilmember Jergensen moved and Councilmember Simonsen seconded
to adopt Resolution 57 of 2009, which motion carried, all members voted
aye .

The following citizens were in favor of the petition: Graydon
Pearson, David Stoul and Darlene Batatian.
Councilmember Simonsen moved and Councilmember Turner seconded to
close the public hearing, which motion carried, all members voted aye.
Councilmember Christensen moved and Councilmember Simonsen
seconded to defer the decision to a future Council meeting, which
motion carried, all members voted aye .

7:53:51PM COMMENTS TO THE MAYOR FROM THE CITY COUNCIL
Councilmember Christensen asked Mr . Everitt for an up-date on the
Leonardo. Mr. Everitt said the Leonardo held a reception and announced
they were planning to open on April 15, 2010 which was also Leonardo
Divinci' s birthday. He said Dr. Mario Capeechi had agreed to become
the Leonardo' s senior advisor.
7:55:37 PM COMMENTS TO THE CITY COUNCIL
The following citizens were opposed to Salt Lake County taking
over the management of the Sorensen Center: Cindy Harling, Mark
Harling, Jose Garcia, Jennifer Andrade, Noella Leon, Gina Hiatt, June
Hiatt, Travis Bird, Denice Newbold, Bryce Williams, Shuanne Samuel,
Mindy Simpson, Priscilla Santana, Jesus Ramos, Wilson Sporl, Jill Poll,
Romina Artanza, Crystal Valdez, Beatriz, Santana, David Carson and
Hakim Ellis .
Scott Cowley and Alex Silva spoke in support of Parley' s Dog Park.

Councilmember Simonsen moved and Councilmember Garrott seconded to
adopt the Consent Agenda, which motion carried, all members voted aye .
#1 . RE: Setting the date of Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 7 : 00
p.m. to accept public comment and consider adopting an ordinance
amending the land use designation of the Northwest Community Master
Plan Future Land Use Map for property located at approximately 356-358
