NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the Salt Lake City Council and Mayor of Salt Lake City recognize April 12, 2022, as Education & Sharing Day in Salt Lake City. Adopted this _____ day of April 2022 __________________________ ______________________ Erin Mendenhall Dan Dugan, Chair Salt Lake City Mayor Salt Lake City Council Member, District Six __________________________ ________________________ Darin Mano, Vice Chair Victoria Petro-Eschler Salt Lake City Council Member, District Five Salt Lake City Council Member, District One ______________________________ ____________________________ Alejandro Puy Chris Wharton Salt Lake City Council Member, District Two Salt Lake City Council Member, District Three __________________________ __________________________ Ana Valdemoros Amy Fowler Salt Lake City Council Member, District Four Salt Lake City Council Member, District Seven Date/Time Opened Popular Topic Contact Name Description 4/8/2022 10:54 Discrimination Charles Henderson Hello,My name is Ashley Kraft, secretary for the non-profit Rose Park Panthers.I've also sent this email to Pashion Whales at the Human Resources link from the Northwest Recreation Centers website. This file discusses matters of discrimination by staff at Northwest Recreation Center towards our President Charles Henderson.Thank you,Ashley Kraft 4/11/2022 10:08 MCS Field Gregory Glenn Subject:(EXTERNAL)MCS Field House Proposal Mr.Nelson and Mr.Wharton,I am in receipt House of Ms.Kate Little's recent communication to you as a matter of public record. When considering decisions that have significant bearing on our civic life and the life of our important civic institutions, fair and civilized discourse and dialogue are essential. In describing the Choir School's efforts to provide a physical education and early childhood facility as"disingenuous and misleading,"Ms.Little has publicly attacked the integrity of the Sparano-Mooney Architectural firm and the leadership of the Cathedral Choir School while having had no direct communication with either of us.She has never reached out to us for a clarification or an understanding of our project and its program. We consider her unfounded characterization of us as"disingenuous and misleading"very seriously, and we object to the characterization as deriving from bias, misinformation, and false projections.Ms.Little makes the false assertion that our necessary physical education facility will be managed by an outside organization. This is simply untrue, and based on misconstrued information she derived from an outside website. The Choir School, while participating in the CYO league for the good of its children, retains strict control of the use of this facility.Scheduling is prepared jointly as a league, but we still maintain control of the building's use and have ultimate decision-making power the schedule in our facility. This is an elementary school, not a high school.Saturday events over a five-month period will involve groups of only 20 students and 1-2 parents per child spaced out over a period of eight hours. It will not create a further parking difficulty as these and other events occur at the Choir School even today. For an entire year,MCS provided its facilities for use by the Gifted Music School,an important institution to our community, while they completed plans for a permanent facility. This brought roughly 50 students and faculty to the campus on each Saturday. To my knowledge, there was not a single complaint about additional parking or traffic. All large-scale CYO tournaments are held at the High Schools—Judge Memorial and Juan Diego.Ms.Little's assumption that"if they build, they will come"is grounded in absolutely no fact.In fact, "they"are already present on our campus almost every Saturday and Sunday.Ms.Little's speculation on our bus parking vis a vis the parking agreement with the LDS Church is also a misrepresentation of the situation. Our parking space for busses on Second Avenue has been fully approved by Salt Lake City.We do not shift them around in avoidance of difficulties. We 4/12/2022 17:59 Homelessness Ian Harris Hello Council Members,Council staff took a call from Ian Harris.Ian works at the temporary winter shelter at the Ramada Inn.He is concerned with the discharge plan for the shelter. He explained they have one week before the program ends and there aren't enough beds for people to go to after it's close. He has a number of people who have outright declined services but there are around 50 or so who would take a shelter bed.The issue is there aren't any beds to offer them. The resource centers don't have enough of a turnover to meet the demands.(there was 1 bed open in the last 3 weeks at the HRCs)He understands options are limited but is disheartened at the seeming futility of the situation. Many of the clients are seniors who have been priced out of housing or people evicted from homes due to Covid. Several couples were staying in cars prior to the temporary shelter but have since lost the vehicles. To add to the frustration,he believes nothing he's said to superiors has conveyed the seriousness of the situation to the correct people. He is calling to share what he's seen personally and would like to talk to Council Members about the data he has.
