Resolution: Canvass of the Salt Lake City Municipal General Election 2023 The Board will consider adopting a resolution canvassing, accepting, and approving the results of the Municipal General Election held in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 21, 2023.   Cindy Lou Trishman read the results of the 2023 Municipal General Election provided by Salt Lake County and clarified that all elected officials would be sworn in on January 2, 2024.   Rachel Otto voted to adopt the Resolution canvassing, accepting, and adopting the results of the 2023 Municipal General Election on behalf of the Salt Lake City Mayor.    Motion: Moved by Board Member Valdemoros, seconded by Board Member Wharton to adopt Resolution 1 of 2023, Canvass of the Salt Lake City Municipal General Election 2023. Staff Note: Per state law, the Board of Canvassers for municipal elections includes the City Council and Mayor. Certified vote totals are shown on the canvassing resolution. SCRIPT for AFTER THE MOTION – ADJOURNMENT Is there a motion to adjourn as the Board of Municipal Canvassers? Second? The Board declares “elected” the following persons to the municipal office indicated: Section 4. Pursuant to Utah Code Section 20A-4-304, the Election Officer (City Recorder) has prepared a report of the election results (the “Election Results Report”) that contains: (a) the total number of votes cast in the Board’s jurisdiction, (b) the names of each candidate whose name appeared on the ballot, (c) each office that appeared on the ballot, (d) from each voting precinct, the number of votes for each candidate, (e) the total number of votes given in the Board’s jurisdiction to each candidate, (f) the number of ballots that were rejected, and (g) a statement certifying that the information contained in the Election Results Report is accurate. Section 5. The Election Officer (City Recorder) and the Board have reviewed the Election Results Report to ensure that it is correct and direct the Election Results Report be signed. Section 6. The Election Officer (City Recorder) shall: a. Record or file the certified Election Results Report in a book kept for that purpose; b. Prepare and transmit a certificate of election under the City Recorder’s seal to each elected candidate; c. Publish a copy of the certified Election Results Report (i) at least once in a newspaper of general circulation within the jurisdiction of the Board, (ii) on the Utah Public Notice Website created in Utah Code section 63F-1-701 for one week, (iii) in accordance with Utah Code section 45-1-101 for one week, and (iv) on Salt Lake City’s website for one week; and d. File and transmit a certified copy of the Election Results Report to the Lieutenant Governor within 14 days after the date of the General Election. Section 7.
