07/20/2021 - Formal Meeting - City Council Comment File Public Comments 07.14.2021-07.20.2021 Date/Time Opened Contact Name Comment Topic I am writing because I am worried about our foothills. The latest improvements to trails seem not well thought out, particularly for hikers. These trail additions seem to benefit bikers and often bikers and hikers don't mix well. There seems to be a lack understanding that hikers have the right of way,and often bicycles expect hikers to get out of the way, both when they are traveling up hill and down hill.Downhill is of course very dangerous.I have noticed a significant increase in bike traffic since the latest changes to the trails I am asking that you make sure that all users are considered, and that we don't overtax the 7/14/2021 15:22 Ann Carter limitations of this wonderful resource Thank you Ann Carter Foothills Trail System Master Plan Please help us.We were forced into homelessness while sick from covid we were vaccinated also. This landlord Amy Grant Lakeview apts owned by peak living properties.I have a mountain of evidence against amy grant that she sabotaged slandered my name around tooele so i couldnt rent any where she forged a lease that she used in her complaint i was paying my rent damn it amy refused my rent payment lied to her attorney they evicted me for non payment this is bullshit we are starving thirsty sick as hell with covid and homeless oh and we lost everything also is this fair are you serious plz plz for the 7/14/2021 15:52 Chasity Deponte love of god plz help us Homelessness 12:50 PM 7/20/2021 Page 1 Public Comments 07.14.2021-07.20.2021 Date/Time Opened Contact Name Comment Topic Having hiked in the trails above 18th Ave.for over 20 years,I have been encouraged that more people are enjoying the foothills in the Covid year. However, the the Phase 1 master plan work clearly has created some damage to the foothills both physically and visually. There is one chance to get the next phases re-evaluated and revised so that the foothills are accessible but not destroyed for future generations. This city has many qualified professionals who are willing and eager participate, evaluate and comment on the next phases.Take the time, get the appropriate people involved, not just City employees and previous consultants.Get the right team together so everyone is on the same page with the same vision, not always easy.A lot can be learned, both positive and negative, from evaluating Phase 1 and incorporating that knowledge into future phases. The work that has been and will be done moving forward will transform and change the foothills forever. This is an opportunity that can set new standards locally and nationally.Take the time and 7/14/202115:56 Peter Emerson do it right!Regards Peter Emerson Foothills Trail System Master Plan Who greenlighted a 30 foot cell tower in front of my home?I was given a week's notice and no say whatsoever. There is a good chance that they are going to ruin a 100 year old tree besides making a hideous sight in the lawn. They are putting their power box 2 feet from the water valve. How is this safe?At best if there's a problem it will short out the tower at worst it could electrocute someone. When I emailed Verizon their response was akin to there's nothing you can do.It's funny how if I don't take care of that patch of property I will get in trouble with the authorities but you can run all over it with no notice, no recompense,no say in the matter. There are better places to put this thing.Steven 7/14/202116:05 Steven Suggs Suggs*See Corresponding Attachment* Small Cell Wireless Facilities 12:50 PM 7/20/2021 Page 2 Public Comments 07.14.2021-07.20.2021 Date/Time Opened Contact Name Comment Topic Sent:Wednesday,July 14,2021 6:51 PM To:Mayor;Council Comments;Rogers,James; Faris,Dennis;Wharton,Chris;Valdemoros,Ana;Mano,Darin;Dugan,Dan;Fowler,Amy Subject:(EXTERNAL)Pantages Theater Dear Mayor Mendenhall and elected members of the Salt Lake City Council,I am writing today in concern for the Utah Pantages Theater. As you all very well know,it is currently slated to be demolished and replaced with a high-rise residential structure-donated to an out-of-state developer.A person may argue that the deal includes 10%of the new development to be affordable,or that redevelopment will attract economic successes, but a person could argue that the demolition of such a significant structure would be significantly detrimental in more ways than the positive effects that these development plans will provide:Not only would the construction of a new high-rise contribute greatly to the ongoing gentrification of Salt Lake City and the displacement of lower-income residents, but the iconic theater house and the part it has played in city history will be forever gone.A structure catering to theater and the performing arts is accessible to all,but a residential building that caters primarily to the upper-class changes the accessibility of the area.It will not be a friendly place to hardly anyone but the wealthy and privileged. It is also worth mentioning the local businesses that will be displaced alongside the theater. The individuals running these establishments have worked very hard to get their foothold in the area of locally-owned businesses in such an evolving downtown area.Despite the great efforts made by these individuals, displacement and relocation may just be the fatal blow for these small businesses. 7/15/202110:37 Abigail Tanner *Continued 1/3* Utah Theater 12:50 PM 7/20/2021 Page 3 Public Comments 07.14.2021-07.20.2021 Date/Time Opened Contact Name Comment Topic *Continued 2/3*The long and hard years of work done by locals with limited resources will be put aside for the benefit of a corporation that already has billions in their portfolio. The actions taken by this council make it clear you are not working in favor of the city residents that invested their precious voting power in your favor.I am particularly directing this accusation toward Mayor Mendenhall.A historically significant gathering place that caters to all social classes will be lost through your actions.A culturally significant home to theater and performing arts will be lost through your actions.Local businesses that serve a wide population will be lost in favor of the comparatively few wealthy-through your actions.Do you serve the people that elected you?Do you approve and carry out what will benefit the most people, stretching far beyond your elected terms and into the future? You know what you are letting slip through your fingers:millions of dollars worth of irreplaceable architectural treasure and history. This, all for unaccessible luxury housing that could be built anywhere else in the city.Though the illegal and dishonest deals that have gone on behind closed doors have come to light for both the present and future to observe(and ongoing activities that show the deep-rooted corruption of those in political and non-political power),illegal campaign donations, purposefully skewed restoration expenses, the halted collection of correct statistics, the hushed deals with Hines, and the deceptive complacency in the ongoing redevelopment Abigail Tanner do not diminish your political prowess and sway. 12:50 PM 7/20/2021 Page 4 Public Comments 07.14.2021-07.20.2021 Date/Time Opened Contact Name Comment Topic *Continued 3/3*Past and present individuals in the high-status political scene of Salt Lake City are indeed guilty of dishonest connections with unqualified organizations and individuals, and it is a betrayal of those that have participated in democracy-given elections. Is this the legacy you want?We are all aware of what has been done. This is what the mayor will be known for,and it is what hundreds and thousands currently do know her for.You have the power to mend these mistakes.I ask you to do so.If negotiations would be made with the proper parties that are able and eagerly waiting to do the necessary work,we will soon all be able to enjoy a shining jewel of a theater.A spokesperson of the preservation movement has just been arrested-Michael Valentine. He and his associates, among restoration experts and professionals in the field, are waiting for your appropriate action-as are we all.Your legacy and the future of Salt Lake City are up in the air.Ourselves and the future generations are waiting and watching.Disappointed Abigail Tanner but hopeful,Abigail Tanner 12:50 PM 7/20/2021 Page 5 Public Comments 07.14.2021-07.20.2021 Date/Time Opened Contact Name Comment Topic To Whom It May Concern(which is each of you):I am a 40-ish year old Utah native and former resident of Salt Lake City proper. As one who both lived downtown and worked in the area's property and construction management,I have a great love for the City and its history!I have been part of,and privy to watching, the preservation of historic buildings and elements(like the ZCMI facade)of the downtown area.As the current owner of a 103- year-old house,I am particularly interested in the destiny of old things and extremely concerned about the planned destruction of the 103-year-old Utah Pantages Theatre! My heart physically hurts to think that the history and craftsmanship of such a building, built with hope in such trying times, would be destroyed by developers Hines and Le Salle. From my research,I can tell that you have put effort into educating yourselves and finding answers about the possibility of preserving the Utah Theater.I appreciate the work that the public servants and private contractors have performed thus far.I trust that you would move forward with solutions that will best benefit the citizens you serve. However,I believe the plan currently in place to demolish the Utah Pantages Theater is one worth revisiting. It would be a huge mistake and a stain on your legacy and the City itself to tear down such a building!Though the promise of additional housing downtown is appealing,I do not believe that the plan currently in place will benefit our beloved City. The "affordable housing"is a very small percentage of the proposed high-rise and will not be 7/15/202110:40 Wendy Nicholson accessible to most of the City and County's residents.*Continued 1/2* Utah Theater 12:50 PM 7/20/2021 Page 6 Public Comments 07.14.2021-07.20.2021 Date/Time Opened Contact Name Comment Topic *Continued 2/2* A restored theater, however, will bring in the people and money from all over the state-even the country-and will keep downtown Salt Lake City thriving! An article from the National Trust for Historic Preservation explains the positive impact saving an old theater can have on its community.I highly recommend you read it here: https://savingplaces.org/stories/now-playi ng-fil m-streams-show-stopping-revival-of- omahas-historic-dundee-theater#.Y09d40xME2x I strongly urge you, even beg you,to halt the demolition of the Utah Pantages Theater and end the deal with Hines. There are restoration experts,non-profit organizations, film festivals, preservationists, and grass- roots advocates who are happy to help you make a future for the Utah Pantages Theater possible.I know that if you choose to save and restore the Utah Pantages theater,it will be a positive and long-lasting credit to you and your legacy as public servants. When I think about how Mr.Pantages brought hope and joy to the masses in the midst of a world war and global pandemic,I cannot help but hope that you will be willing to do the same during our current global pandemic. No amount of modern housing or"saved historical elements" can replace our gorgeous and historically significant Utah Theater. Please do all you can to Wendy Nicholson save it.Respectfully,Wendy Nicholson 12:50 PM 7/20/2021 Page 7 Public Comments 07.14.2021-07.20.2021 Date/Time Opened Contact Name Comment Topic Hello,These public comments are in reference to 150 S.Main Street Apartments Design Review Application and Petition PLNPCM2021-00024.This deal was built entirely on lies, misinformation, and collusion to hide facts from the public, all of city council, and now two different mayors.Danny Walz and Tammy Hunsaker led a rogue agency and completely orchestrated the theater's failures so it could be sold to Hines. We made a feature-length documentary about all of it you can find here with dozens of emails, documents, video clips, and evidence of this rampant citywide corruption. You can find it here https://youtu.be/19MItFBdtlY The people will not allow city officials and government agencies to destroy historical significant properties in backroom, fraudulent deals so billion- dollar companies can profit even more. This zone change and design review need to be canceled immediately because this deal has been a sham for years. Our theater needs to be freed from a corrupt RDA and Hines control and given back to the people of Salt Lake 7/15/2021 10:40 Michael
