03/01/2016 - Work Session - Announcements City Council Announcements March, 1 2016 Information Needed by Council Staff 6:15:57 PM A. Proposed Legislative Action: Review of Demolition Ordinance Council Member Adams requests the Council consider adopting a Legislative Action initiating a review of the City Demolition Ordinance (Chapter 18.64). The Council Office has received feedback that the current demolition ordinance has unintentionally created blight and nuisance issues in some City neighborhoods and is difficult to navigate and administer. The intent is to review the ordinance and come back to the Council with recommendations for amendments. If the Council is supportive of this legislative action, staff will prepare the legislative action and motion sheet to be considered for adoption during the March 15 Council meeting. ➢ Does the Council support initiation of this petition?A Straw Poll was taken with all Council Members in support of initiating the petition. B. WaterNow Alliance Inaugural Summit Council expressed interest in the WaterNow Alliance Inaugural Summit in Tempe,Arizona on Wednesday,March 30-3ist. Council Member Kitchen would like to attend. Council office policy requires an announcement to be made if a Member would like to attend a convention outside the pre-authorized standard conferences. A.38 COUNCIL OFFICE TRAVEL (11io1) a. Any or all Council Members may travel to conferences and conventions related to City business. b. The Council currently budgets for a standard amount for travel.Pre-authorized conventions are: 1. National League of Cities;Washington,D.C. 2. National League of Cities;location rotates(Salt Lake City in 2002) 3. Utah League of Cities and Towns,Mid-Year Convention; St.George c. Members may decide to attend other conferences and conventions related to City business. d. When a Council Member expresses interest in traveling to a conference, convention or seminar, beyond the pre-authorized opportunities, Council staff will prepare a notice for the announcements. If the Council Members present during review of the announcement concur with the proposed travel, Council staff will finalize travel plans. If the Council Members are opposed to the proposed travel,the trip is not scheduled. e. Since the Council is committed to a well-trained professional staff, the Council budgeted for one conference approximately every other year per professional staff person within existing budgetary constraints, as work schedules allow and with approval of the Executive Director. Special circumstances for professional required education will be considered by the Director. ➢ Does the Council support paying for this trip?Yes.Discussion was held on having a Council staff person attend with Councilmember Kitchen.
