TUESDAY, AUGUST 20 , 2019
The City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, met in Special Formal Session
on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 in Room 315, Council Chambers, City County
Building, 451 South State.
The following Council Members were present:
James Rogers Amy Fowler Analia Valdemoros
Chris Wharton Andrew Johnston Charlie Luke
Erin Mendenhall
Cindy Gust-Jenson, Council Executive Director; Jennifer Bruno,
Council Executive Deputy Director; Patrick Leary, Mayor' s Chief of Staff;
Rusty Vetter, Deputy City Attorney; and Scott Crandall, Deputy City
Recorder; were present.
Councilmember Luke presided at and conducted the meeting.
The meeting was called to order at 7 : 00 p.m.
PUBLIC HEARINGS
#1 . 7:00:25 PM Accept public comment and consider adopting one or
more ordinances adopting the final rate of tax levy, for all City funds
including the Library Fund, upon all real and personal property within
Salt Lake City made taxable by law for Fiscal Year 2019-20 and adopting
the final budget, including the Library Budget, for Fiscal Year 2019-
2020 . (Truth-in-Taxation) View Attachments
Edwin Zinnanti expressed concerns about his taxes increasing $900
this year and had questions about the process . Councilmember Luke asked
Staff to meet with Mr. Zinnanti to address his concerns .
Lisa Hazel submitted a comment card only. She expressed concern
about the impact of tax increases on lower income people, having wealthy
residents pay higher taxes, and reducing the brightness of street lights
to minimize glare .
Corina/Noe Garrido submitted a comment card only. They questioned
why their property tax increased so much this year.
Councilmember Wharton moved and Councilmember Johnston seconded to
close the public hearing and adopt Ordinance 42 of 2019, establishing
the final rate of tax levy, including the final levy for the Library
Fund, upon all real and personal property within Salt Lake City, made
taxable by law for fiscal year 2019-2020, and ratify the budget as
adopted by the Council in June, which motion carried, all members voted
aye .
