Excused:
Mayor_ Ted Wilson
Rendell Mabey opened the meeting and asked if there were any correc-
tions to be made to the minutes of the November 2 , 1983 meeting.
There was one correction, Gainor Bennett needed to be listed as
present at that meeting. Hugh Hogle motioned the minutes be approved
and accepted. Ross Anderson seconded the motion. The motion was
passed unanimously by the- Board member voting aye .
Rendell acknowledged that- Harold Lamb had been asked to be released
as a member of this Board. Rick reportedthat Mayor Wilson had
recommended Howard Marcus for the Board, but it hadn't been made
official.
Rendell said he had met with Rick Graham and Gainor Bennett to
discuss the functions of the Board. They felt the Board should
consist of three main committees to be responsible for researching
certain general issues .

Gainor Bennett made the motion to approve the committees and their
members . Marcia Price seconded the motion, which was passed unani-
mously by all Board members .
John Gust stated ..that__Rick Graham_will ba available to meet with
the different committees, rather than having them going to the
Aviary.
There was a question on the formal name of the position as to whether
it is to be called a Curator or a Director of the Aviary. John
Gust explained that it- is -to be called a Curator. A Director would
conflict with the chain of command,- as -this-position falls under
the jurisdiction of Rick Graham, Deputy Director of Parks .
Margaret Miller ofthe Recorder's Office swore the members of the
Tracy Aviary-Advisory Board that -were -present into-office. All
members of the Board were sworn in with the exception -of Jim Ure
(he was a few minutes late) .
Rick stated that the four applicants were scheduled to be interviewed
every half an hour. Rendell asked if any additional letters of
recommendation had been received and Rick stated that he had received
some from Grenville Roles .
Jules Dreyfous inquired about the salary range. Rick replied that
it is negotiable between John Gust, the Mayor and the applicant .
It will range between $1885 $2610 per month.
Jules Dreyfous asked for recommendations from those who took the
applicants around earlierthat day. Hugh Hogle suggested that would
not be fair to do so since there weren 't recommendations for all
the applicants .

Interviews proceeded in order.
1 . Bill Mater (stated he did not feel it would be in his best
interest to accept this position. )
2 . Grenville Roles
3 . David Joyner
4 . Jim Jennings
After the interviews , there was some discussion on the applicants .
Hugh Hogle made the motion to make a recommendation to Mayor Wilson
to hire Grenville Roles as the Curator of Tracy Aviary. Jules
Dreyfous seconded the motion, which was passed unanimously by all
Board members .
•
It was decided that if Grenville did not except the position, the
job would be open for bid to obtain more applicants . They did not
feel their second choice was exceptable .
Gainor Bennett asked Board members about the next meeting. There
will not be one held in January, but rather on February 1, 1983
at the- Salt -Lake City Parks & Recreation Building.
