01/17/2017 - Work Session - Announcements City Council Announcements January 17, 2017 Information Needed by Council Staff 5:29:07 PM A. Council Board Appointments - Subcommittee for interviews In general the Mayor suggests board appointments for the Council to consider, but there are a few cases where the Council is responsible to both suggest and approve members (3 spots on the Citizens Compensation Advisory Committee (CCAC) and 5 spots on the Metro Water Board). There are two pending vacancies to the Metro and one on CCAC. Staff sent information to the Council in email for potential board member applicants and would appreciate the Council's direction for requesting interviews with the Council subcommittee. The list of potential applicants is also provided on the Clipboard for the Council's review and direction to staff. Cindy Gust-Jenson, Executive Council Director, said review/direction was needed from Council and additional discussion would be scheduled in February. Additional Item Ms. Gust-Jenson said sexual assault processing kits had been a Council priority. She said Mayor Biskupski and Representative Angela Romero wanted this to be added to the City's formal list of legislative priorities. Council Members said they were supportive but wanted to be sure the issue did not override or take away from other legislative issues the City was interested in pursuing/lobbying for. David Litvack, Mayor's Deputy Chief of Staff, said he shared that concern. Ms. Gust-Jenson said she thought it was largely a policy statement to have it on the list and did not think there was any expectation from Representative Romero that the City would take the lead in the lobbying effort. She said a broad coalition of organizations was involved and had been meeting monthly to provide help. She said she felt what the Mayor and Representative Romero were looking for was more of a statement of continued support. Straw Poll: Council support to add sexual assault kits to the City's priority list with the understanding that does not mean the City was taking the lead on lobbying for this piece of legislation. All Council Members were in favor.
