06/13/2017 - Work Session - Announcements City Council Announcements June 13, 2017 Information Needed by Staff 5:56:4o PM A. NLC National Convention 2021 in Salt Lake City The National League of Cities is recommending that their 2021 convention be held in Salt Lake City.Visit Salt Lake has worked with the Mayor's office and is requesting an indication of support from each the Mayor and Council. This could be satisfied by a Council straw poll and staff will draft a letter for the Chair to sign. The last time the City was host to the convention was in 2002. It will likely require some budget appropriations to support various events and/ or preparations related to the convention. Those will come closer to the event. ➢ Is the Council supportive of hosting the NLC 2021 National Convention? Cindy Gust-Jenson, Executive Council Director, said the Mayor's Office asked her to check to see if Council Members were interested in having Salt Lake City bid for the National League of Cities Convention in 2021. Councilmember Rogers asked if the Administration submitted a favorable recommendation. Ms. Gust-Jenson said yes. She said currently, this was being handled informally due to the budget season but typically the Council would adopt a Resolution(Staff couldfollow-up with that in July, 2017). She said in order to preserve options, Staff wanted to ask if the Council was willing to have them prepare a letter from the Council Chair expressing support for continuing the process. Straw Poll:All Council Members were in favor.
