CHANGE IN SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL While this is claimed to be a City-wide policy change, it appears to affect airport employees only. If this is the case, how much money is truly being saved by targeting this one division, which is an enterprise fund? 2. REASON SHIFTS DETERMINED The current shift schedule in place was created because the airlines DEMANDED this amount of coverage. 3. STANDARDS I contacted the Federal Government and inquired with the National Park Service. Their ordinance states that if you are staying in any of their campground facilities there is a noise ordinance in place from 10:00 pm until 7:00 am. I contacted the State of Utah Parks Department and they informed me the noise ordinance in place is 10:00 pm until 7:00 am. I contacted Sandy City and their noise ordinance in place is 10:00 pm until 7:00 am. I contact Salt Lake City Corporation and their noise ordinance is 10:00 pm until 7:00 am. In fact, according to Salt Lake City, Sunday's noise ordinance is 9:00 pm until 9:00 am. These government entities have established a precedent reflecting what are considered"normal sleep times". Numerous studies show that the average person needs a minimum of 8 hours of sleep for optimal job performance. Given my current schedule of 5:00 am to 3:30 pm, I need to be in bed, asleep by 7:30 pm. It is extremely difficult to sleep at 7:30 pm when most of my neighbors are allowed to make noise until 10:00 pm. They are still outside playing with their kids and mowing lawns, etc. Since this shift is not considered a "normal" work schedule and is hardly desirable (otherwise more people would be on it) why are we being singled out for an additional decrease in pay?
