MEMO May 3, 2011 To: Honorable City Council Members Salt Lake City Council From: Fred Fife, PSE 842 W 900 So Salt Lake City, Utah 84104 The Glendale Library Steering Committee recommended the Concord site to the Library Board after rejecting the alternate 900 South site as not viable based on inaccurate, unsubstantiated, hearsay information from one of its committee members that was later determined to be totally not factual and misleading. That information was imposed on architect, CRSA, to consider in a report on the viability of the 900 South site that is owned by the City free and clear and that has features that the community voted as most important compared to all sites considered, including the Concord site. The 900 South site, across the Jordan River from the International Peace Gardens, would save taxpayers money and time to complete the project and it exemplifies the qualities that the community desires for its library. The architect was misled by information claimed to be factual and his report and thus his firm are discredited because of it. He should be allowed to amend his report, if the information given to him can be proven to be inaccurate, which he has said he would do at his own expense. 2 It is therefore requested that the Council set a precedent by rejecting the unfounded recommendation from the Library Board with an order that they direct the steering committee to resume the site selection process by requesting the architect to reevaluate the information that came from them. The process needs to be resumed to restore the integrity of the Library Board, the steering committee, and importantly the architect in this important decision for the Glendale community.
