Minutes
May 23, 2013
The Public Utilities Advisory Committee tour was held on May 23, 2013. Advisory Committee
members met at the Public Utilities Building at 1530 S. W. Temple at 7:00 a.m.
Committee members present were Dwight Butler, Dixie Huefner, Allen Orr, Roger Player and
Kent Moore. Committee members Larry Myers, and Christy Cushing were absent. Public
Utilities employees present were, Tom Ward, Stuart Lawrence and Zee Smith. Rusty Vetter from
the Salt Lake City Attorney's Office was also present.
Instead of the regular monthly meeting for May, the Public Utilities Advisory Committee
Members participated in a tour of some of the Public Utilities facilities. Stuart Lawrence a Public
Utilities accounts collector/investigator drove the van for the tour. And Tom Ward conducted the
tour.
• Salt Lake City Water Reclamation Plant—Dale Christensen, Reclamation Plant
Administrator, Tom Ward, Giles Demke, and Stewart Lawrence conducted the tour of the
Water Reclamation Plant.
• 900 South Jordan River Oxbow Location—Tom Ward, Deputy Director and Kelly Brown
conducted this tour. The Committee was shown a stormwater clean out area on the Jordan
River. A vactor truck was used to demonstrate how the clean out boxes are kept clean.
• The tour also included the Terminal and Sam Park Reservoirs—The Committee was able
to view the construction that is being done at this site.
• Parley's Water Treatment Plant—Tour conducted by Dennis Potts. Bill Myers was also
present at this Treatment Plant. The Committee members were able to view how are
drinking water is treated.
The tour concluded back at the Public Utilities Building at about 11:45.
