Item #1 : Susan Hagen, of 1821 E. Redondo Avenue, appealed to
the Board for help in an effort to keep the city tree in
front of her home from being removed. She bought the home
around January/February 1987 . The previous owners did not
inform Ms. Hagen of the work they had requested to be done
nor did they notify the city departments that there would
be a new property owner when they went to do the work.
The Norway Maple tree on the city parking strip has borers.
When the sidewalk was replaced , there were major roots cut
which renders the tree unstable . There are mushrooms
growing at the base of the tree which is an indication of
root rot. For these reasons, among others, the tree was
scheduled to be removed (as requested by the previous
owners) . Ms. Hagen would like to do whatever is necessary
to save the tree. The Board will consider her appeal and
talk further with the City Forester , Steve Schwab.

Item #3 : Ordinance
The draft ordinance still has a few changes to be made. It
is being reviewed by the City Attorney' s office.
A public hearing will be scheduled during the October 6th
Board Meeting for input from Arborists and tree service
companies. A fact sheet will be sent out along with the
notification of the hearing . Copies of the draft ordinance
will be available from the Urban Forestry office upon
request.

Item #4 : Annual Report
Copies of subcommittee annual reports were given to Jennifer
Harrington . Jennifer will organize these along with the
Staff report, etc. , into a final draft form to be reviewed
in the October meeting. The annual report is being
prepared for presentation to the Mayor and City Council in
November 1987.
Meeting adjourned at 8 : 00 p.m.
The next meeting of the Board will be October 6 , 1987 .
