11/3/1987 - Meeting Minutes 111 /74 jP MINUTES Salt Lake City Urban Forestry Board Tuesday , November 3 , 1987 Room 203 City Hall 6 : 00 p .m. Present : Mary Pat Matheson Steve Schwab Esther Truitt Max Peterson Barbara Ray Karen Salisbury Lloyd Siegendorf Orson Gibb Item #1 : Minutes MOTION : Lloyd Siegendorf Accept the minutes as written . 2nd : Orson Gibb Vote : Aye : unanimous Item #2 : Ordinance • Steve Schwab received a letter from Kent Sundberg , President of the Salt Lake Chapter of the Association of Landscape Architects , with some detailed comments regarding the ordinance . Wayne Hansen had called Steve with mostly favorable comments from those who work at Valley Nursery . No other comments had been received . Mary Pat suggested an ordinance subcommittee meeting be scheduled and notify the nurserymen that they are welcome to attend and express any final comments at that time . Thank you letters should be sent out to those who attended the public forum and who submitted comments . Mary Pat will draft the letter , Karen will mail it out . Item #3 : Subcommittees Barbara Ray and Esther Truitt volunteered to be on the nominating committee . They will organize the nominations for Chair and Vice-Chair as required by ordinance and voting will take place in January . Item #4 : Tree Planting There was discussion on the Urban Forestry Program and the process of planting trees throughout the city . A method needs to be devised for equity in planting trees throughout . the entire city area . This should be possible when all the inventory date input is completed . 1 410 411 Item #5 : Announcements . A. Lloyd Siegendorf 1 . Lloyd has Arbor Day packets available for anyone who is interested . "Trees Are Terrific " packets were originally put together for 5th grade students . 2. Senator Eldon Money is sponsoring a bill for a $1 ,000 appropriation from the legislature to use for plaques for trees throughout Utah . 3 . There will be 2 , 000 seedlings available for 4th grade students to plant on Arbor Day . Mary Pat suggested that Lloyd promote the planting of native plants and trees among those seedlings and not plant just one species such as blue spruce .
