Welcome and Introduction of Guests — Courtney welcomed everyone.
Public Comment— Philip Carlson, lives on 2700 South and has some concerns about
the proposed configuration. He's familiar with cycling as a commuter and for fun and
while he's excited about the 2700 South rebuild, he would like the bike lane
configuration to be reconsidered. As a cyclist, he would feel safer in a sharrow in a
regular lane rather than in a narrow bike lane. He handed out a letter with his ideas and
pictures to the Board. He believes sharrows would be better and safer and would prefer
no change vs. having a narrow bike lane. Wade Cowley also lives on 2700 South and his
neighborhood has gained numerous signatures on a petition regarding raised
crosswalks. He is opposed to them as he believes they will divert traffic to the side
streets where children are playing and riding their bicycles. He also feels that raised
crosswalks will contribute to air and noise pollution as there will be more vehicle stop
and go. As a community they would like to see a smooth road with some nice crosswalks
and crosswalk lighting. Ellen asked if both Philip and Wade agreed with the petition
being circulated and they said the do. Jon explained how raised crosswalks work.
