1/4/2022 - Meeting MinutesHuman Rights Commission Minutes 1 3/13/2023 11:51 AM Human Rights Commission Salt Lake City, Utah Regular Meeting Minutes Tuesday, January 4, 2022 5:30 p.m. The Human Rights Commission met in an electronic meeting pursuant to the Salt Lake City Emergency Proclamation and determination of the Chair. Minutes are provided in conjunction with the video/audio file. Meeting Materials _________________________________________________________________ Commission Members in Virtual Attendance: Commissioners Wessel, Stowell, Garcia, Salazar-Hall, Kelly, Doumbia. Commission Members Absent: Commissioner Banuri City Staff in Virtual Attendance: Moana Uluave-Hafoka, Equity Manager Guests in Attendance: None The meeting was called to order at 5:38pm 1.Welcome •Roll Call 2.Approve and Adopt Minutes •December 2021 -- Adopted as written 3.Public Comment •No public comment 4.Review Policy Considerations •Chair, Vice Chair, and Moana reviewed the proposed draft policy considerations for the commission and commissioners agreed to work within these parameters. 5.Food Equity Resolution Vote of Support •The commission unanimously voted to endorse the Food Equity Resolution 6.Review Goals & Priorities •Subcommittees i.CEDAW: C. Wessel, C. Salazar-Hall, C. Kelly •Subcommittee will meet with UN Women’s Utah Chapter to finalize CEDAW Ordinance Recommendations to the Commission ii.Gentrification: C. Doumbia, C. Kelly, C. Stowell, and C. Garcia Human Rights Commission Minutes 2 3/13/2023 11:51 AM •Consultants will bring updates in March regular meeting iii.Homelessness: C. Stowell, C. Wessel, and C. Garcia •Moana sent email with links for updates on homelessness. Will have more in February meeting. 7.Discussion/Dialogue about Human Rights Around the World (5-10 minutes) -Human Rights violations in Mali, Ethiopia, and Myanmar -Extradition of WikiLeaks man who is now a suicide risk is in solitary confinement. British government has now allowed to be sent to United States, will face espionage chargers, this will affect freedom speech – C. Wessel -What about indigenous rights in the United States? In Utah? Any litigation? – C.
