This design aesthetic and composition mirrors my current studio practice of collage-based artworks. There is both chaos and cohesion among the different elements included in the design, much like any given game of basketball can encompass. Different pieces (players) coming coming together to create a unified whole. The mountains on one long edge of the composition are a loose interpretation of the Wasatch Front. Viewers may (or may not!) recognize some familiar shapes and outlines within the landscape, but on the whole, should still look collaged together. An outdoor basketball court such as this, will encourage games of `Streetball,'which is a variation of basketball that is less structured and encourages individual players unique styles and individual skills to show through. It can be chaotic, loud, explosive, and most of all fun for the players and their audience. I see this artwork as mirroring that Streetball ethos. I will utilize the SportsMaster ColorPlus surface paints and be able to use the following pigments mixed with their `Neutral Concentrate' to create the full range of colors shown in the design mock-up: Purple, Orange, Yellow, Bright Red, Sandstone, Ice Blue, Light Blue, Dove Gray, Maroon. The base color preferred should be a white, or similar light color. Project timeline is anticipated at 5-10 days work. Variables such time allowed on site, weather, construction, materials and any other potential contingencies may arise and bump that timeline closer to the 10 days estimate. My intent is to convey a message of inclusivity, culture, and imagination. I will accomplish this by including imagery that depicts elements of street ball culture, and the magnificent state we live in. I have created a contemporary design that creates movement and interest not only on the ground level, but from an aerial view as well. The elements in my design are as follows. The sego lily is the state flower of Utah and is a symbol of peace and perseverance. The Wasatch mountains and red rocks of Canyonlands National Park represent the incredible diversity and range of landscapes in our beautiful state and the pride our community has in them.To represent the street ball culture, I've encompassed the influence of music, dance, fashion, and art in my design. Paint splatters represent graffiti and street art.Abstracted sound waves symbolize hip hop and rap music which are so prominent in the culture of those that visit and play street ball at the park.Shoe tread is also included to represent the influence of breakdance on the fluidity of the movement of street ball players and the urban fashion that is so prominent in the culture. These element come together to create a bold, design that will engage anyone in the area. I am confident this design will stand out with it's dynamic shapes and cohesive limited color palette. I will be using SportMaster sanded paint to execute this work. I will be applying this as per manufacturer instruction using a squeegee.I will first prepare my design by gridding and drawing in the shapes with chalk. I will be using yellow, ice blue, light blue, and blue pigments. I have used sanded paint for a crosswalk on asphalt previously,so I am prepared to work with the texture and viscosity of the material. Past projects have given me the knowledge of how to work within city guidelines for a public project, including project liability insurance, street closures, and managing a team of volunteers.Working with private businesses have proven my ability to bring a vision to fruition while remaining adaptable and true to myself as an artist. These projects have informed my skillset,as has my experience as a former teacher. I have excellent management skills, I problem solve well, and am flexible in any situation.I love brainstorming sessions with groups to come up with the best game plan for high quality and efficient solutions.A decade in a classroom providing materials and lesson plans for an average of 250 students has honed my skills at projecting materials needed and costs associated. My project timeline is flexible, but will be depended on weather and availability of assistants, lodging, and materials.
