RECOMMENDATION: The Administration recommends the Council consider the
recommendation in the attached letter from the Mayor and appoint Matilyn Mortensen a member of
the Sister Cities Board.

Listed below is my recommendation for the membership appointment for Sister Cities Board.
Matilyn Mortensen to be appointed for a four year term, starting from date of City Council
advice and consent and term ending on Monday, July 6, 2027.

Dear Mayor Mendenhall:
The Department of Economic Development would like to recommend Matilyn Mortensen as
a voting member of the Sister Cities Advisory Board.
Ms. Mortensen currently works as a Communications Specialist at the University of Utah. She
has supported planning an d executing events and exhibits around “Better Days 2020” (the
150th anniversary of women voting in Utah) and Real Women Run Podcast (celebrating
elected female officials in Utah). She is very interested in the opportunity to build both
community and i nternational relationships and appreciates the idea of working for
international good and cross -cultural understanding, both themes central to Sister Cities’
mission and values.
The Department recommends Ms. Mortensen’s appointment to the Sister Cities A dvisory
Board and believes her background and interest would be an asset in strengthening our
Sister City program and relationships.
