1. A total of 153 eligible grant applications requesting $1,121,133 from the City Arts
Grants Program, which is funded by our Non-Departmental award, were received this
fiscal year. In total, 87 applicants were awarded partial funds for their grant and thus
we are unable to fund $738,633 in request for our Non-Departmental Award.
Unfunded applications equaled 66 applications or 43% of applicants.
2. Overall, no single applicant received 100% of their request, except for applicants of
the Artist in the Classroom Grant Program (which is a full funding or zero funding
structure).
3. We received applications from 34 new artists or organizations this fiscal year, 16 of
these applications were awarded or are recommended to receive funds towards their
project_

Project Description:
I am developing an evening-length production that will be performed twice in June 2024, at the
Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. Repertory Dance Theatre, a pillar of American Modern
Dance repertory companies, has accepted my application for a partnership through their LINK
Series outreach program. Through the LINK series, "RDT provides infrastructure and advisory
support for production and marketing while allowing the choreographer to retain artistic
autonomy" (rdtutah.org). As the artist, I will be responsible for all costs.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake District 2, 3, & 7

Project Description:
We are requesting funds to have a community event in Salt Lake City on February 22, 2024 to
showcase our Art Contest submissions of youth participants from our Eccles, Sugar House, and
Lied Club sites. Prior to the contest, Club youth will be taught a variety of art skills in multiple
mediums to create their artwork by the instruction of a myriad of visiting artists and our art-
focused staff. Pieces will also be submitted to the National Arts Contest put on by Boys & Girls
Clubs of America. The art pieces will be created by 56 youth participants, ages 6-18.

Project Description:
PlayGround Dance Project gives twenty dancers and five choreographers the opportunity to
participate in a flash incubator creative process. The dancers and choreographers are given
one week, or 8 hours, to create five new pieces of work to be performed in a fully-produced
show at the Leona Wagner Black Box Theater. The project is designed to support freelance
dance artists local to Salt Lake City and surrounding areas, providing them with time, space,
and a platform to create and explore.

Project Description:
Curbside Theater is a mobile outdoor production of concert dance and live music. It consists of
an elevated micro-stage mounted on a 12 ft trailer. Requiring no infrastructure, the project
includes all the technical elements of a theater: the stage satisfies concert-level physicality;
lighting shapes the space and gives visual direction; and audio supports clear musical
performance.
Utah Blues Society District 4

music and it's heritage. "

Project Description:
I am requesting funding for the Third Annual Noori Screendance Festival. This festival
celebrates local artists working at the intersection of dance and film to curate a two-night event.
The 2024 festival will feature eight films with an artist Q&A on April 19th and 20th at the Utah
Museum of Contemporary Art (20 S W Temple St, Salt Lake).
Story Crossroads

Project Description:
Students from Mountain View Elementary will experience professional storytelling by Nannette
Watts and Cassie Ashton to get them excited to join the weekly Learning Labs on Storytelling at

the Glendale Community Center. These kick-off assemblies on March 27, 2024 will be in-
person with about 500 students and divided by grades. Then, on five Tuesdays (March 27, April
9, 16, 23, 30) from 4-5pm will be activities to grow in the art of storytelling. We will have four
Story Crossroads youth tellers (from past Summit & Festivals) rotating as special guests for
each of those four Tuesdays with performances and question and answer sessions combined
with story games teaching skills guided by professional storytellers Nannette Watts and Cassie
Ashton.
Pygmalion Productions

Project Description:
Pygmalion is producing MOTHER OF THE MAID by Jane Anderson. It will be performed in the
Black Box Theatre at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. We are requesting grant funds
be used to support the actors' compensation (see Budget).
Utah Arts Festival

Project Description:
The 2024 Utah Arts Festival marks 48 years of serving the community. This year's festival is
scheduled for June 28-30, 2024 and will again take place downtown Salt Lake City at Library
Square. We are dedicated to providing affordable and inclusive access to a diverse range of
artistic genres in an open and relaxed atmosphere. The Utah Arts Festival aims to enhance
accessibility, inclusivity, and equity, ensuring diverse voices are represented across its
programs.
Torrey House Press
Recommended Amount $3,150.00 District 4
Project Description:
Torrey House Press proposes to sponsor a collaboration of public literary arts and storytelling
events highlighting voices that have been traditionally absent and emerging voices that are
actively creating the future of the—here in Salt Lake City, across the state, and beyond.
Community Building Services

Project Description:
The project will take place at University Neighborhood Partners on Saturdays at 12-3 pm (may
vary with time) instructed by a choreographer. The expected minimum participating artists will
be 15. There will be 30 working weeks for dance classes. The project starts from February 1,
2024 and ends on August 31, 2024.
Discovery Gateway Children's Museum
Recommended Amount $4,550.00 District 2
Project Description:
We are requesting funds to help support our World Connections Festival that we host at the
museum on a yearly basis. The program will officially begin in early June and will kick off a
month and a half of our museum helping to celebrate and showcase the incredible, diverse,
talented community that we have here in Utah. We plan to bring in music, performers, and to
align our in-house art classes with themes related to diversity. We are planning to have at least
4 unique performances (from varied artistic disciplines) throughout the month of June in our
museum.

Project Description:
A Celebration of Cultural Diversity— Multiethnic Performing Arts 21th Festival is scheduled to
take place at The Gateway Legacy Plaza, 10 N Rio Grande St, Salt Lake City, UT 84101 on
Saturday May 25, 2024 4pm to 8:30pm with twelve performing arts groups performing at this
event.
Indigo Cook

Project Description:
This will be the sixth annual Art for the Recovery Community Festival. The festival is comprised
of two main components: an in-person event and a digital exhibition.
Performing Arts Coalition

Project Description:
PAC will produce an evening performance (formerly known as Rose Exposed) at the Rose
Wagner Center on August 31, 2024, presenting work by six of Salt Lake's premier performing
arts companies in music, dance and theatre.
Dance Class for Humans

Project Description:
"Dance Class for Humans" (DCFH) is a donation-based, Contemporary dance class series with
rotating teachers meeting biweekly for 90 minutes at the Westminster University Performance
Arts Center. Each DCFH class serves up to 35 students, encompassing a diverse array of Salt
Lake City community members, including professional dancers, college students, and new-to-
the-form dance enthusiasts.
The Salt Lake Children's Choir
Recommended Amount $4,050.00 District 6
Project Description:
Our project centers around the preparation and performance of our Spring Concert I Friday and
Saturday, May 10th and 11th at 7:30 PM at St. Ambrose Church in Salt Lake City. This event is
a captivating showcase of art songs and compelling folk music from various corners of the
world, beautifully rendered by our two children's choirs.
Art Access
Recommended Amount $3,500.00 District 2
Project Description:
The Artist Working Group is a collaborative creative research group exploring the intersection
between disabled identity and significant social topics. Each year, four to eight disabled artists
working across mediums create original artwork in response to a proposed theme to investigate
how the theme interacts with disability experiences.

Project Description:
The project for which grant funds are being requested is the choir's annual concert at the Libby
Gardner Concert Hall. The concert will take place on June 1st, 2024.
Turnbow Productions

Project Description:
Post Credits is a screening and networking event that showcases the work of the recent
University of Utah Film School Graduates. Our mission is to celebrate filmmakers and artists
who continue to produce art after graduating from college during a time of uncertainty in the
industry and in their careers.
Kara Komarnitsky

Project Description:
This project will create a 10-minute screendance to be presented at 801 Salon in July 2024. It
will feature contemporary dance choreography accompanied by spoken poetry from the Lake
Words Collective. The movement explores the experience of climate grief and how it can often
manifest in the body as a heavy weight.
Ulhaas - Bengali Association of Utah

Project Description:
Rabindra Nazrul Jayanti is one of the most popular art and cultural event organized by Ulhaas
in the valley. Like every year, Rabindra Nazrul Jayanti will be held in April - June 2024 in Salt
Lake City. The exact date and venue will be finalized in next few months. This event celebrates
the famous work of two renowned Bengali artists of 20th century.
Busking Bus Theater
Recommended Amount $4,000.00 District 4
Project Description:
I will direct and produce twelve open-air variety shows at 225 S Main St. These free public
performances will take place on weekends from May 10th until July 21 st. This project utilizes a
small school bus, with a stage built into its side, to bring performances to where people already
gather. I bring together musicians, magicians, mimes, actors, and singers who take the stage
and attract crowds. Each performance consists of a four-hour block of diverse programming.
Truth in Comedy
Recommended Amount: $0 District 2
Project Description:
Truth in Comedy (TiC for short) is a storytelling, stand-up comedy, and art show where
humanity is the muse. Each show consists of three storytellers, three comedians, and one
artist. The storytellers will share a story from their lives, aka their truth, where they are willing to
be open, honest, and vulnerable. After each storyteller, a comedian will perform a set inspired
by the story which they prepared in advance. At the end of the show, the artist will present
three pieces they created in advanced, each inspired by one of the stories, and speak on their
inspiration and process for what they created. The reason we do the show is to show that no
matter what we go through in life we can always find something to smile or laugh about.

Project Description:

Takahiko Kato is a master potter from Japan whose work focuses on wood-fired pottery. He
has diligently studied the tea ceremony to make tea wares. Takahiko writes, "The tea ceremony
captures the essence of Japanese culture. All arts and crafts in Japan are deeply connected to
the tea ceremony and tea is deeply rooted in Zen Buddhism. I really have to be fluent in the
fundamentals of tea, otherwise I cannot create tea wares that will advance this tradition."

Our grant proposal seeks to fund a comprehensive series of interactive performance events in
Salt Lake City. These events comprise two formal performances at the Leona Wagner Black

Unity Center on March 23 and Public Library Spaces on May 11. The project aims to cultivate a
deeper understanding of the Great Salt Lake ecosystem and urges artists and audiences to use

Hill Road Show to Salt Lake City in May 2024. One performance will be in the Salt Lake City

media presentation uses live performance of nine songs, oral history and a visual slide show of
70 historical images to tell the story of the early labor movement and Joe Hill, a Swedish
immigrant and songwriter, the precursor of Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan.

Salt City Slam has been Utah's premier poetry slam since 1995 and is now part of AAMP Utah.
Salt City Slam is a monthly event in which 10 poets compete for prize money and a novelty salt
shaker that serves as a trophy. Poetry slam is a literary arts competition created in the mid
1980's in Chicago. It's original purpose was to bring the literary arts to the working class and
provide a platform for poets and artists that are representative of the community.

planning to pay us, Wasatch Theatre Company plans to compensate its artists.

Lake City Arts Council to fund our June 2024 Pride Pop-Up exhibition for its second
