OFFICE OF THE MAYOR

Dear Mayor Mendenhall,
The Racial Equity in Policing Commission has reviewed applications and would like to
recommend Ms. Diya Oommen to become a commissioner. Diya was previously confirmed for
the Commission prior to taking an internship with the Mayor’s Office and is eager to continue
her contributing to this much needed space. They believe that Ms. Oommen will bring a much-
needed perspective to the REP Commission as a YouthCity council member. In this role, she has
organized forums for effective resolution of local issues and concerns. As a current student at
West High School, Ms. Oommen can advocate for her peers and those identified in this age
range. Additionally, she has served as an at-large representative for the Salt Lake City
Redistricting Committee, among other community, civic, and academic involvement.
Again, on behalf of the REP commission, we recommend Ms. Diya Oommen. Please see the
attached file for her application and resume. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Michelle Mooney, Equity Manager
