The public is welcome. Items scheduled may be moved or discussed during a different portion of the meeting based on circumstances or availability of speakers. This meeting will be hybrid. The Commission Meeting will have a physical location at the City and County Building in the RDA Conference 9115 and members of the public may provide public comment in-person. Commissioners and presenters may join or participate either in person or through electronic means. Welcome • Roll Call • Welcome New Commissioners -DI and D2 Commissioners will provide a brief introduction of who they are,their background, and interest in serving on the commission. 2. Approve and Adopt Minutes • January 2024 3. Public Comment(5 minutes) • Attendees may be provided one or two minutes of time, determined by the number of attendees and the time available determined by the Commission. Please observe the time limit stated at the beginning of the public comment period so everyone may have a chance to speak. • Per the public meeting guidelines, keep comments free of discriminatory language referring to a person or group based on their religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, color, descent, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age or other gender identity factor. Items or comments that disrupt the meeting, intimidate other participants or that may cause safety concerns are not allowed. 4. Community Presentation (—20-30 minutes) • Katsi Pena, Public Outreach and Education Coordinator for the Office of Fairness and Accountability for Utah Courts will provide a presentation on her office's initiatives. 5. Recap Homelessness Community Forum(— 10-15 minutes) • Members of the HRC will recap the homelessness forum held on Saturday, March 2nd and share highlights and areas of improvement. 6. Overview of Assignments (— 10-15 minutes) • Equity Manager, Michelle Mooney will review the assigned areas each Commissioner will focus on. The commission will formally accept assignments once confirmed. 2 7. Upcoming Community Forums (5-10 minutes) • The Commission will begin discussing ideas for their next community forum. 8. Call for Any Other Business • Commissioners will use this agenda item to discuss any items not brought forth earlier or any outstanding items for follow-up. 9. Approve and Adopt Minutes • November 2023 —A motion has been made by Commissioner David Leta to adopt the minutes as presented for the November 2023 Human Rights Commission meeting. Commissioner Everrette Bacon has seconded the motion. All commissioners are in favor. Motion has passed unanimously. 3. Public Comment(5 minutes) • Attendees from the public had no comment for this segment of the agenda. 4. Human Rights Day Post-Event Feedback(— 15 minutes) • Equity Manager, Michelle Mooney will ask for Commissioner feedback on post- event of Human Rights Day o Commissioner David Leta and Commissioner Olivia Jaramillo commended the Mayor's Office staff along with the cultural performances. o Commissioner David Leta has added the next Human Rights Commission meeting should include a discussion on sponsorship applications and donation schedule to help fund the program for 2024. o Commissioner Jennifer Mayer-Glenn commented to include the awardees to speak on the work after receiving the award. Commissioner Jennifer Mayer- Glenn, Commissioner Everrett Bacon, Commissioner Pamela Silberman, and Commissioner David Leta discussed the matter further. o Michelle Mooney Equity Manager brought forth setting the date for the 2024 Human Rights Day Celebration on the day of the observance. ■ Commissioner David Leta, Commissioner Pamela Silberman, and Commissioner Everrette Bacon further discussed the scheduling matter. o Commissioner David Leta asked Michelle Mooney Equity Manager if a roster of past nominees and awardees of the Human Rights Day Awards. Michelle Mooney, Equity Manager commented that this information is available to her from 2019 until 2023. 5. HRC 2024 Year Overview (—30 minutes) • Equity Manager, Michelle Mooney will provide an overview of the 2024 year with the commission, and review priorities. The commissioners selected topics of interest to work on and prioritize this year. • The commission will also nominate and elect a new Chair and Vice Chair.Michelle Mooney, Equity Manager, has asked for Chair and Vice Chair nominations. o Commissioner Pamela Silberman has nominated Commissioner David Leta as Chair. Commissioner David Leta has nominated Commissioner Will Terry ■ A motion was made by Commissioner Everette Bacon to accept the nominations and elect Commissioner David Leta(Chair) and Commissioner Will Terry(Vice Chair). The motion was seconded by Commissioner Jennifer Mayer-Glenn. All commissioners in favor. The motion passed unanimously. 6. February Community Forum w/Westside Coalition (— 15 minutes) • An update from assigned commissioners to this forum will provide an update. o Commissioner Jennifer Mayer-Glenn commented on the collaboration with the Westside Coalition tentatively set for the February. The topic for the forum will be on homelessness, and will include dialogue as well as educational experiences from people experiencing homelessness. ■ Other commissioners had an opportunity to ask questions and gain insight on how they can take part in the planning. 7. Discussion/Dialogue about Human Rights Around the World(5-10 minutes) • During this portion of the meeting, Commissioners may raise topics and discuss current events that may impact or influence the Commission's overall work, discussions, and deliberations to provide recommendations to the Mayor and City Council.No action will be taken during this section of the meeting. Matters discussed during this section of the meeting may be scheduled on a subsequent agenda for follow-up. • This section of the meeting was not held this month. 8.
