06/10/2024 - Meeting Materials SALT LAKE CITY ORDINANCE No. of 2024 (City and County Building Conservancy and Use Committee) An ordinance amending section 2.39.030 of the Salt Lake City Code to update the requirements for participation on the City and County Building Conservancy and Use Committee. WHEREAS, Section 2.39.030 of the Salt Lake City Code provides guidance and requirements related to the composition of the City and County Building Conservancy and Use Committee; WHEREAS, some of the organizations whose members are appointed to positions on the City and County Building Conservancy and Use Committee no longer fulfill the same role that they did at the time the pertinent city ordinances were first enacted; and WHEREAS, the current criteria governing the composition of the City and County Building Conservancy and Use Committee has severely limited the pool of candidates who are eligible to serve on the City and County Building Conservancy and Use Committee; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that updating the city ordinances to expand the pool of candidates who are eligible to serve on the City and County Building Conservancy and Use Committee will enhance the effectiveness of the City and County Building Conservancy and Use Committee and will benefit the City. NOW, THEREFORE,be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City,, Utah: SECTION 1. That Section 2.39.030 of the Salt Lake City Code shall be, and hereby is, amended to read as follows: 2.39.030: CREATION OF COMMITTEE: A. There is created the City and County Building Conservancy and Use Committee which body shall consist of eight(8) appointed voting members. The mayor,the city attorney, the support services manager and the city engineer, or their designees, shall be ex officio nonvoting members. B. Members of the committee should either be city residents, own or work for a legal entity located within Salt Lake City, or have a demonstrable history of substantive work on projects within Salt Lake City. C. The composition of the eight(8) appointed voting members of the City and County Building Conservancy and Use Committee shall be as follows: 1. One committee member who is a licensed architect; 2. One committee member who is either: i. a staff member of Preservation Utah; or ii. recommended for the position of committee member by Preservation Utah; 3. One committee member who is either: i. a member of the Salt Lake City Arts Council Board; or ii. recommended for the position of committee member by the Salt Lake City Arts Council Board; 4. One committee member who is a licensed landscape architect; 5. One committee member who is either: i. a staff member of the Utah State Historic Preservation Office; or ii. recommended for the position of committee member by the Utah State Historic Preservation Office; 6. One committee member who is a licensed engineer; and 7. Two (2) at large committee members. SECTION 2. That this ordinance shall become effective upon publication.
