Doodle poll to look for availability. This would not be an official meeting, simply a social
gathering.
Member Report-Out
Greta said next Monday, the 26th, Sweet Streets is hosting a human protected bike lane
on 300 South from 4:30-5:3o. They ask that you get there at 4 and just stand in the bike
lane. If you're uncomfortable doing that, they have opportunities to volunteer
otherwise. This is to draw attention to that portion of the street that is an unprotected
bike lane. It's between State Street and Main Street on the south side of the street.
Jeannie mentioned that the Mayor's bike to work day is Thursday.

Alla said she's really been enjoying the 9-line despite a couple of issues like the lights
and the people walking chaotically. She thinks it activates the street, especially in the
central 9th portion of it and sort of all the way between central 9th and Liberty park. It's
really cool to see how vibrant it gets on the weekend or evenings. Now that the days get
longer people are going out after work, it's delightful and it's so fantastic in contrast to
other streets that don't have a wonderful bike path.
William said this weekend they had southwest qualifiers for bike polo at Jordan Park.
It was very wet and cold, but he would like to share comments from out of town people.
If anyone is not aware, SLC has a very strong bike polo community, and hosted the
North American Championships last October at Jordan Park. What they heard from a
lot of people is that they were very impressed with the way SLC in the past few years has
really built up the bike infrastructure and it's easy to get around town. The only other
comment they made, and this is something that he hopes to get with the Committee on,
is that east/west connectivity is still difficult. There were a lot of kudos given especially
with the new green bike route, goo South, 300 West, and all over that area.
Matthew wanted to echo comments from the bike polo team, he lives in D2 and went
to the North American World Cup. It was awesome, and he thanked the bike polo
teams. He's been participating, along with some other members, in the Friday morning
coffee ride which starts at 7 a.m. at Liberty Park. They ride around SLC for around 90
minutes and then they end at a coffee shop. It's super fun and a great way to explore
more of urban SLC. He said it looks like there's some more City road&intersection
improvements on goo West and he thanked the City for those. The bike lane is now
open all the way on goo West past the apartment buildings on 200 South where it was
closed for a while, so it's very bikeable now.
Laura was riding home last week and noticed a City truck painting bicycle stencils in
the bike lane.
Maxwell does the Tuesday night Emigration ride, and they got in trouble for having
too many people gathering on a weekly basis. If you're over 50 people in Emigration
Township you need a permit, and he heard they're trying to create a new rule to lower it
to 20 people. The residents are getting upset that they have to drive slowly. Jon said
SLC has a permitting process for officially organized large groups as well. Steve said
within SLC it is 50 people, and they prefer at least a 3o day notice, but as an event
friendly city, they will work with groups. He said the advantage of obtaining a permit is
that the SLCPD may potentially be able staff the event, so people are more protected.
Jeannie said on Bonneville Boulevard, the trailhead is complete for parking, for bikers,
hikers, and other people who want to enjoy City Creek Canyon and surrounding BST
trails. They have also put in a very cute art installment for a bike rack.
Public Comment
Dallon had follow up to a comment he made a while ago about bicycles and LPIS
(Leading Pedestrian Intervals) on bike routes. He reached out to SLC Streets and at
least from the person he reached out to said bicycles do qualify for the LPI, so once the
walking signal goes white, bicycles can also enter the intersection. The impression he
got was that this was if there was a bike lane.
Esther had a little bit of a situation getting to the meeting, but has an appointment
before Council tomorrow to be appointed to the BAC.

Discussion of Recent Transportation Project Designs
(Focus on 300 West, boo East, goo South, and similar "side of street trails."
Committee members talked through some major infrastructure designs going on in the
City and provided the feedback below. Following today's conversation, Becka will look
at the most current design standard manuals regarding anything of particular concern.
• 300 West Feedback
o Driveways are problematic/Multiple interactions with vehicles (Better
Visibility/More Signage/Better Delineation like different paint)
o Connectivity issues to other areas
o Difficult transitioning between types of bike lanes (protected/non-protected)
o Driver Awareness Education needed(pedestrians/cyclists can be coming from
both directions)
o Speed Limit signs for cyclists would be helpful
o Speedbumps would also be helpful
• goo South Feedback
o Less traffic/less conflict than other bikeways
o Fewer driveways cut down conflict with vehicles
o Businesses are more foot traffic friendly
o Needs more aggressive striping, signage,or delineation indicating different
bike/ped areas and directing pedestrians to the sidewalk.
o Different types of roads should have different types of cycling routes
o Frequent vehicle obstructions
o Confusing because some parts are a multi-use path and some are a bikeway only
o Delivery vehicles frequently park on bike path
Becka asked if the Committee members thought two parallel bikeway routes should be
something SLC aspires to, for example goo South and 800 South where 800 South is
the route for those who want to go faster and goo South is the route for those who want
a more leisurely, nicer experience. This topic will be brought up at a future meeting due
to time constraints, but after a quick"pulse" check, the members overwhelmingly liked
the separation idea.
No action was taken.
Motion: Matthew Morriss motioned to adjourn the meeting; Greta Sommerfeld
seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at
6:30 P.M.
