Minutes A motion was made by Theresa Foxley and seconded by John Bradshaw to approve the minutes of November 15, 2023, as presented. All votes were affirmative; motion passed. B. Director’s Report Bill Wyatt, Executive Director, gave an update to the Airport Advisory Board regarding current events including, • Welcome to our newest Board Member, Nathan Raferty from Ski Utah • Brief update on Airport security • Bolts were not tight on a Max 9 aircraft. FAA is doing an investigation • Mon. Jan. 15th reached 32,000 passengers • All concession are now open • We are in the late mid budget season- Our March meeting we will go over the budget C. Airport Redevelopment Program (ARP) Update – Mike Williams, ARP Director, SLCDA Mike Williams, Airport Redevelopment Program (ARP) Director, presented an update on the ARP (presentation on file). Main points included were: • Safety, Statistics and Schedule o 13,065,461 Total Trade Hours Worked o 545 Trade Workers (week ending 01/05/2024) • Near Tearm Schedule Milestones o Phase 3 Permanent Power Available 1.31.24 o Central Tunnel-Start Art Audio System Testing • Airport Redevelopment Program Overall Budget • Central Tunnel and Airfield o Passenger Cell Moving Walk Start-up and Testing Initiated o Started Deicing Building Demo • Concourse ‘B’ East – 8Gates (Phase 3) o Area G Mini-Plaza Drywall Underway o Area J – Holdroom Carpet Started • Concourse ‘B’ East – 16 Gates (Phase 4) o Stone Column (Ground Improvement) Complete o Driven and Shallow MEP Underground in Progress • Overall Phase 2, Phase 3 and Phase 4 Phased Delivery • Baggage Handling System Update – EBS & Concourse B • Baggage Handling System – Future Capacity o TSA authorized the A-Nub CBIS project. • Central Tunnel will be opening in October with an incredible sound system, artists with Utah roots and over 100 songs. Airport Advisory Board Meeting Minutes 17 January 2024 3 Theresa Foxley asked what the function is of the early bag storage. Bill Wyatt explained when passengers arrive early for their flight the system takes the bag and puts it aside until the tag is read again and put with other bags for the flight. D. Air Service Development Update – Nate Lavin, Air Service Development Manager, SLCDA Nate Lavin, Air Service Manager, presented an update on Air Service Development (presentation on file). • Air Service Portfolio 2024 o SLC serves 98 nonstop destinations. o We have 13 Carriers, and we are the 4th Largest Delt Hub • Airline Announcement o Hawaiian Airlines Nonstop service to Honolulu beginning May 16th • We expect to finish the year 1% higher than our 2019 numbers in terms of passengers with much more growth in 2024. • Growth in international traffic is up 19% as of November 2023 • SLC’s airline performance is leading the nation with one of the highest average load factors and airline revenue growth among all U.S. large hubs. • SLC will add seat capacity to the market in 2024 for the first time since 2020. o Delta adding 300,000, United adding 100,211and Frontier 91,864 o Comparing the first half of last year and the first half of this year we are adding 700,000 departing seats. • Pratt & Whitney engine recall o An estimated 1200 aircraft will need to be inspected. o From removal to inspection then back on the aircraft will take 300 days • Strategic Plan o Strengthen and Grow o Expand global reach to new international destinations. o Increase presence of low-cost carriers o Delta and United have added pilots from the regional carriers • SLC Air Service Strategic Initiatives o Strengthen and grow. o Expand global reach to new international destinations. o Increase presence of low-cost carriers • Long Term International Strategy o New configuration for Delta’s Airbus A350. Less passengers and more premium seats o The weight of the aircraft will be reduced, improving the performance of the plane. John Bradshaw asked if the merger between Hawaiian and Alaska Airlines will be affected by the Federal Judge’s ruling on the JetBlue and Spirit merger? Nate Lavin explained it’s not a big surprise the merger was not approved and there is a lot of optimism that this merger will go through. Airport Advisory Board Meeting Minutes 17 January 2024 4 Nathan Raferty inquired about the increase in seating. Asking what the added capacity will do to ticket prices. Lavin explained that airfare is coming down with the decrease in fuel costs which helps with the operating costs for the airlines. Bradshaw asked how much growth potential do we have to bring in additional airlines? Wyatt explained it’s a constant conversation. We are looking at ways to expand, adding that international gates are common use gates for all international. Bradshaw also inquired about extending the runways. Wyatt spoke about this being top priority for our planning group. Stating we are working on plans for the future extensions. Nancy Volmer congratulated Nate Lavin on making the list for 2023 Airport Business Top 40 Under 40. Theresa Foxley also complimented Nate on his data driven analytical approach. Raferty inquired about what changes we anticipate with the announcement of the Olympics. Wyatt explained we have been staying in touch with the Mayor’s office. By the time the Olympics come we will be done with our current projects and have the bugs worked out.
