019 of 1998 - Amending zoning ordinance to modify the zoning requirements for parks, community centers, and places0 98-1 P 98-16 SALT LAKE CITY ORDINANCE No. 19 OF 1998 (Amending zoning ordinance to modify the zoning requirements for parks, community centers, and places of worship within residential, commercial, manufacturing and downtown zones, pursuant to Petition No. 400-97-52.) AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE TABLES LOCATED IN CHAPTERS 21A.24.190, 21A.26.080, 21A.28.040 AND 21A.30.050 OF THE SALT LAKE CITY CODE TO INCREASE THE ALLOWABLE AREA FOR PARKS, COMMUNITY CENTERS AND PLACES OF WORSHIP WITHIN RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL, MANUFACTURING AND DOWNTOWN ZONES, PURSUANT TO PETITION NO. 400-97-52. WHEREAS, under the existing zoning ordinance, parks, community centers and churches are only allowed within some residential, commercial and downtown zones under specified conditions; and WHEREAS, the City would like to modify its existing zoning ordinance regarding parks, community centers and churches in residential, commercial, manufacturing and downtown zones; and WHEREAS, the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, after public hearings before its own body and before the Planning Commission, finds that the proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance set forth herein are in the best interest of the City. NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That the "Table of Permitted and Conditional Uses for Residential Districts," located at Chapter 21A.24.190 of the Salt Lake City Code shall be and hereby is amended, in part, to provide as follows: Community and recreation centers, public and private, on lots less than four (4) acres in size shall be allowed as a permitted use in the R-O zone and as conditional uses in all other residential zones. Natural open space and conservation areas on lots less than four (4) acres in size shall be allowed as permitted uses in all residential zones. Parks and playgrounds, public and private, on lots less than four (4) acres in size shall be allowed as permitted uses in all residential zones. Pedestrian pathways, trails and greenways shall be allowed as permitted uses in all residential zones. SECTION 2. The "Table of Permitted and Conditional Uses for Commercial Districts," located at Chapter 21A.26.080 of the Salt Lake City Code shall be and hereby is amended, in part, to provide as follows: Community recreation centers on lots less than four (4) acres in size shall be allowed as permitted uses in all commercial zones. Places of worship on lots less than four (4) acres in size shall not be allowed in the C-N zone, but 2 shall be allowed as permitted uses in all other commercial zones. Parks and playgrounds, public and private, on lots less than four (4) acres in size shall be allowed as permitted uses in all commercial zones. Pedestrian pathways, trails and greenways shall be allowed as permitted uses in all commercial zones. Natural open space and conservation areas shall be allowed as conditional uses in all commercial zones. Squares and plazas on lots less than four (4) acres in size shall be allowed as permitted uses in all commercial zones. SECTION 3. The "Table of Permitted and Conditional Uses for Manufacturing Districts," located at Chapter 21A.28.040 of the Salt Lake City Code shall be and hereby is amended, in part, to provide as follows: Pedestrian pathways, trails, and greenways shall be allowed as permitted uses in all manufacturing zones. Natural open space and conservation areas shall be allowed as permitted uses in all manufacturing zones. SECTION 4. The "Table of Permitted and Conditional Uses for Downtown Districts," located at Chapter 21A.30.050 of the Salt Lake City Code shall be and hereby is amended, in part, to provide as follows: Community recreation centers on lots less than four (4) acres in size shall be allowed as permitted uses in all downtown zones. 3 Parks and playgrounds on lots less than four (4) acres in size shall be allowed as permitted uses in all downtown zones. Pedestrian pathways, trails, and greenways shall be allowed as conditional uses in all downtown zones. Copies of the Tables of Permitted and Conditional Uses for Residential Districts, Commercial Districts, Manufacturing Districts and Downtown Districts are attached hereto as Exhibits "A", "B", "C" and "D" respectively, and are incorporated herein by reference.
