AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 5-9-1 AND ADDING NEW SECTIONS
5-9-19 , 5-9-20 AND 5-9-21 OF THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF SALT LAKE
CITY , UTAH, 1965, RELATING TO ELECTRICAL REGULATIONS .
Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1 . That Section 5-9-1 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, relating to the National Electrical Code
adopted, be, and the same hereby is AMENDED to read as follows :
Sec. 5-9-1 . The National Electrical Code adopted . The 1984
National Electrical Code is hereby adopted by Salt Lake City as
the ordinances, rules and regulations of said City, subject to
the amendments and exceptions thereto as hereinafter set forth;
three copies of which code shall be filed for use and examination
to the public in the office of the Recorder of Salt Lake City.
Hereafter, all references in the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake
City, Utah, 1965, to The National Electrical Code, 1981 edition
adopted by Section 5-9-1 are amended to read The 1984 National
Electrical Code.
SECTION 2. That Chapter 5 of Title 9 of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, as amended, relating to
electrical regulations, be, and the same hereby is amended by
ADDING new Sections 5-9-19, 5-9-20, and 5-9-21 , to read as
follows :
Sec. 5-9-19 . Violation and penalty. Any person, firm or
corporation, whether acting as owner or occupant of the premises
involved, or contractor, or otherwise, who violates or refuses to
comply with any provisions of this title, or the National
Electrical Code, 1984 Edition, as amended, shall be guilty of a
misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be punished by a fine in
any sum not exceeding two hundred and ninety-nine dollars ( $299) ,
or by imprisonment for a period not longer than six (6) months,
or by both such fine and imprisonment. In imposing the fine, the
court may, in default of the payment of the fine, enter as part
of the judgment that the violator may be imprisoned for a period
of not exceeding six months. A separate offense shall be deemed
to be committed on each day an offense occurs or continues.
Sec. 5-9-20. Branch Circuiting. No branch circuiting is
permissible in aluminum conductors of #6 AMG or smaller within
the corporate limits of Salt Lake City. No aluminum grounding or
bonding in any size is permitted . All grounding or bonding shall
be in copper conductors.
Sec. 5-9-21 . Power to panel permits. All new construction
shall require a power to panel permit in accordance with Section
5-9-18, to be issued in conjunction with the required electrical
permit.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
