054 of 1999 - AN ORDINANCE REPEALING SECTION 15.24.020, SALT LAKE CITY CODE; AND AMENDING SECTIONS 15.24.120, 15.20 99-1 0 99-13 SALT LAKE CITY ORDINANCE No. 54 of 1999 (Lots and Grave Sites) AN ORDINANCE REPEALING SECTION 15.24.020, SALT LAKE CITY CODE; AND AMENDING SECTIONS 15.24.120, 15.24.180, 15.24.200; AND 15.24.290. Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Section 15.24.020, Salt Lake City Code, be, and the same hereby is repealed. SECTION 2. That Section 15.24.120, Salt Lake City Code, relating to the price for grave sites be, and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows: 15.24.120 Price for grave sites. The price for each grave site sold in the various locations within the city cemetery shall be as follows: A. Adult Grave Site. The price for an adult grave site shall be six hundred dollars for Salt Lake City residents and seven hundred dollars for non -Salt Lake City residents. B. Infant Grave Site. The price for an infant grave site shall be three hundred dollars for Salt Lake City residents and three hundred and fifty dollars for non -Salt Lake City residents. SECTION 3. That Section 15.24.180, Salt Lake City Code, relating to the transfer of certificate -recording fee be, and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows: 15.24.180 Transfer of certificate -Recording fee. The fee for recording a transfer of the certificate of burial rights from the original purchaser to another party shall be thirty dollars. No such transfer shall be binding upon the city until such transfer fee has been paid and the transfer recorded by the city sexton/maintenance supervisor. SECTION 4. That Section 15.24.200, Salt Lake City Code, relating to the unused lots and purchase by city sexton/maintenance supervisor when authorized be, and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows: 15.24.200 Unused lots -Purchase by city sexton/maintenance supervisor authorized when. The city sexton/maintenance supervisor, when directed so to do by the mayor, may purchase for the city, with funds provided for that purpose by the city council, any unused lots or portions of lots located in the city cemetery at a price of one-half the current resident rate. It is unlawful, however, for the city sexton/maintenance supervisor or any other employee of the city to trade, deal in or make a profit, directly or indirectly, out of any transaction involving the sale, purchase or transfer of any cemetery lot. SECTION 5. That Section 15.24.290, Salt Lake City Code, relating to the fees for city sexton/maintenance supervisor's services be, and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows: 15.24.290 Fees for city sexton/maintenance supervisor's services. A. The city sexton/maintenance supervisor shall collect from those requiring his/her services, the following fees Monday through Saturday: 1. For opening and closing a single infant grave of five feet in length or less, two hundred dollars for Salt Lake City residents and two hundred twenty-five dollars for non -Salt Lake City residents; 2. For opening and closing a single adult grave for cement receptacle, three hundred fifty dollars for Salt Lake City residents and four hundred fifty for non -Salt Lake City residents; 3. Removal of the remains of any deceased adult person from one grave to another within the city cemetery, nine hundred dollars; 4. Removal of the remains of any deceased adult person for interment outside of the city cemetery, four hundred fifty dollars; 2 5. Removal of the remains of an infant from one grave to another within the city cemetery, four hundred dollars; 6. Removal of the remains of an infant for inteiiiient outside of city cemetery, two hundred fifty dollars; 7. For the burial of cremains, one hundred fifty dollars for Salt Lake City residents and one hundred seventy-five for non -Salt Lake City residents. 8. For opening and closing a double deep grave, five hundred dollars. 9. For opening and closing a double deep grave to lower an existing grave, six hundred dollars. 10. For marker monitoring fees: a. Single ground -level marker, twenty-five dollars, b. Double ground -level marker, fifty dollars, c. Upright marker, one hundred dollars. For purposes of this section, "ground -level marker" means a marker which can be passed over by the city's lawn mowers without obstruction. All markers which are not ground -level markers shall be known as "upright markers." B. For interments not completed by four p.m. on any day, a fee of one hundred dollars per hour shall be charged in addition to any other fees and costs provided in this chapter. C. For any burial on a Sunday or holiday, there shall be charged a fee of twice the Monday through Saturday rate for the service being provided. SECTION 6. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its first publication. 3 Passed by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, this 8th day of June. , 1999.
