numbers and to amend the ordinance to
include non-wireline services)
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING BILL NO. 43 OF 1991 TO ADD TITLE,
CHAPTER AND SECTION NUMBERS AND TO AMEND THE ORDINANCE TO
INCLUDE NON-WIRELINE SERVICES.
Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City,
Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 5.04.210, Salt Lake City Code,
be, and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows:
5.04.210 911 emergency service fee.
A. PURPOSE. Section 69-2-5 of the Utah Code
Annotated provides for the establishment and funding of a
911 Emergency Telephone System. Under the Emergency
Telephone Service Law, the City may levy monthly an
emergency telephone charge on each local exchange service
switched access line and each revenue producing radio
communications access line. Notification of intent to levy
the emergency telephone charge must be given to the Public
Service Commission at least thirty days prior to the
effective date. The City provides 911 emergency telephone
service and wants to levy an emergency telephone charge in
the amount of fifty cents per month as allowed by state law.
B. LEVY. The City Council hereby levies an emergency
telephone charge in the amount of fifty cents per month on
each basic local exchange access line and each revenue
producing radio communications access line as authorized by
Section 29-92-1, et seq., Utah Code Annotated, effective
July 1, 1996.
C. NOTIFY PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION. The chief of
the Salt Lake City Police Department, or his/her designee,
is directed to notify the Utah State Public Service
Commission of the entities upon which the City will levy the
charge in accordance with applicable laws.
D. SPECIAL EMERGENCY TELEPHONE FUND. All monies
received by the City from the 911 Emergency Telephone
Service charge shall be deposited in a special Emergency
Telephone Service fund. All monies in the Emergency
Telephone Service fund shall be expended by the City to pay
the costs of establishing, installing, maintaining and
operating a 911 Emergency Telephone System or integrating a
911 system into an established public safety dispatch
center. Revenues derived for the funding of 911 Emergency
Telephone Service may only be used for that portion of the

costs related to the operation of the 911 Emergency
Telephone System.
SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall take
effect immediately upon its first publication.
Passed by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 8 day of August , 1996.
