068 of 2001 - amending the zoning code regarding sign standards in the Gateway District 0 01-1 P 01-18 SALT LAKE CITY ORDINANCE No. 68 of 2001 (Amending the Salt Lake City Zoning Code regarding sign standards in the Gateway District) AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE SALT LAKE CITY ZONING CODE REGARDING SIGN STANDARDS IN THE GATEWAY ZONING DISTRICT, PURSUANT TO PETITION NO. 400-01-24. WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City Zoning Code contains various regulations regarding sign regulations in each of the zoning districts; and WHEREAS, the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, finds, after public hearings before its own body and before the Planning Commission, that portions of the Salt Lake City Zoning Code which relate to the sign standards for the Gateway Zoning District should be amended to allow certain additional signage in the Gateway Zoning District, and that such amendments are in the best interest of the City; NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. The table entitled "Sign Type, Size And Height Standards For The G-MU District," located at Section 21A.46.115.A.3 of the Salt Lake City Code shall be and hereby is amended to read as set forth on Exhibit"A" attached hereto. SECTION 2. Sections 21A.46.115.A.4.a and b of the Salt Lake City Code shall be and hereby are enacted to read as follows: a. Projecting Building Signs: Projecting building signs are allowed for the following uses only: (i) Theaters (live or cinematic theaters with business frontage and direct access to the street), (ii) Anchor retail (large retailers with over 35,000 sq. ft. of usable floor area) or shopping centers or malls (containing multiple stores with a combined commercial/retail floor area of over 100,000 sq. ft.) (iii) Historic buildings as outlined in Section 21A.46.070.V Businesses using Projecting Building Signs may not also use Projecting Business Storefront Signs. The content of a Projecting Building Sign is limited to the building, business or shopping center name and logo. b. Corporate flags: The pole support must be attached directly to the building and located so that all portions of the flag shall not interfere with the street trees, light poles, utility lines, etc. and shall maintain a ten foot (10') clearance from the sidewalk. Corporate flags may be additionally anchored at the bottom with a cable, chain, rope or other non-rigid devise, to prevent excessive movement. However, if more than one structural support is provided, the flag shall be considered a fabric "projecting sign". SECTION 3. Effective Date. This ordinance shall become effective on the date of its first publication.
