SALT LAKE CITY ORDINANCE
No. 70 of 1996 PLANNING DIVISION
(Amendment of Salt Lake City Zoning Ordinance)
AN ORDINANCE PURSUANT TO SECTIONS 10-9-401 THROUGH 405, OF
THE UTAH CODE ANN., 1953, AMENDING CHAPTER 21A.34.020 E OF THE
SALT LAKE CITY ZONING ORDINANCE.
WHEREAS the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, has previously enacted a
zoning ordinance which includes zoning restrictions for Historic Preservation Districts in
Chapter 21A.34.020; and
WHEREAS Chapter 21A.34.020 E designates alterations to existing building
within those historic districts which require approval by the Historical Landmark
Commission; and
WHEREAS the Salt Lake City Planning Commission has determined that
awnings are a very visible architectural element and they have either a positive or
negative effect on historic properties and the streetscapes of historic districts; and
WHEREAS on June 6, 1996, the Salt Lake City Planning Commission
unanimously voted to amend the zoning ordinance so that awnings would be specifically
mentioned as requiring Historic Landmark Commission approval;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah;
SECTION 1. That the last portion of Chapter 21A.34.020 E of the Zoning
Ordinance of Salt Lake City, Utah be amended to read as follows:
11. Any demolition;
12. New Construction; and
13. Installation of an awning over a window or a door.
SECTION 2. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
